PC Sales from 2007 is listed below, but it doesn't include on-line sales. How do you get your games?

Following the ESA-trailed results, NPD released the top 10 best-selling PC games of 2007 to online outlets including Gamasutra, revealing two major franchises - Vivendi/Blizzard's World Of Warcraft and Electronic Arts' The Sims - dominating much of the charts. The full run-down is as follows:

1. World Of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade (Vivendi) - 2.25 million
2. World Of Warcraft (Vivendi) - 914,000
3. The Sims 2: Seasons Expansion Pack (Electronic Arts) - 433,000
4. Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Activision) - 383,000
5. Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars (Electronic Arts) - 343,000
6. Sim City 4 Deluxe (Electronic Arts) - 284,000
7. The Sims 2 (Electronic Arts) - 281,000
8. The Sims 2: Bon Voyage Expansion Pack (Electronic Arts) - 271,000
9. Age Of Empires III (Microsoft) - 259,000
10. The Sims 2: Pets Expansion Pack (Electronic Arts) - 236,000

However, digital downloads were not factored in to the NPD data, since the firm only tracks bricks-and-mortar retail sales currently, making it difficult to track exactly how the PC market is trending as a whole with the rise of casual games and even digital downloads for more 'hardcore' titles.

NDP is full of crap. Didn't C&C3 sell about a million copies in its first 2 weeks? Why do the numbers listed here not reflect this?

Anyway, back to the topic, i get all my games online (steam or gogamer).

I usually order from an online store since I live in northern Canada (Labrador) Everything is about twice the price you normally pay, xbox 360 games are usually 89-99$ without tax, and our tax is .14%

Exclusively hard copy. My gaming PC is not online. That being said, being not based in the USA, I don't think sales attributed to my purchases are part of the NPD figures.

It's a known problem at the minute.

I buy via online shop, it's much cheaper than than highstreet stores.

I believe that the #'s you're thinking of are multi-system. C&C3 didn't sell as well on PC as you would expect.

I would suggest removing the 'other means' option as your bound to get your fellow posters into trouble for 'illegal activies' which should not be discussed here :)

I'm very confused about NPD, another user and I were talking about sales and he posted a link that showed they as of a year + ago started to include MMOs & digital sales. I don't get it :?

I buy most of my copies from Circuit City, Target or Walmart depending on who has the better deal. I have also just started using Steam and have purchased a handful of games that way. It's nice always having a backup and not needed the disc or pile of packing materials, but honestly the lack of a way to sell stuff you don't use anymore is highly annoying.

Well, I thought about that but that really doesn't the question that I have. Seriously, this is scientific research going on here, Gamespot should understand that. But maybe that's why the poll isn't working (moderator locked it)? I will modify it if a moderator would just let me know if thats the issue.

As far as I know we can't lock polls. I couldn't vote either so the system may be glitched.

You can leave your last option there it's just that if someone starts talking about pirated games, how the d/led, etc it will get them in trouble. Maybe put a note like that in your first post and bold or use red text.

Most of the time, I get my games via online stores (Play.com etc.), new and occasionally used but only if it's a game I missed a few years back.

I don't undersand - why don't you use e-bay?

i've bought and sold loads of CDs and games on e-bay and there's never been any problems - stuff i've bought always arrived quickly and in good condition - the only one that had a problem was, funnily enough, a brand new copy of Chrome Specforce, but i simply e-mailed the vendor who put me on to the manufacturer and they sent me the code - problem solv-ed

I'm not keen on spending much money on e-bay, but for small things like games and CDs it's perfect - you can look at the seller's track record and post negative feedback if things not right - though that's v unlikely as people survive on their reputation

Why do NPD still bother?

I get them from retail stores sometimes, but mostly through Amazon.

Just say if ...hypothetically...okay actually just from my experience: you were put in a government program whereby you had games planted into your teeth as they grew so you could the games in your head and just have to think about them to have them developed in your brain...

Would that be accepted as other means? Because thats how I get all my....

oooo....assassin's creed.....no wait........GTA: IV.....NO! Episode 3....yes...heheh..time to view that wedding ....ahem, excuse me one moment! My teeth have spoken. We have each gathered as a council - including my wooden back teeth - to play Episode 3 and watch the wedding scene. Good day to you all..mwahahaha......ahaha......ahhhhhhhh...lousy emphysema.

PS: Yes I really do have wooden teeth like Uncle Abe. Thats Australian Health Care for you!!

online digital purchase from either steam or direct2drive is usually my preferred choice.

I hate going to game stores which nonchalantly banish pc games to foot-level racks that are hidden by rockband equipement. i hate that.

if i really cant find the game online, i will go to best buy, shove the microsoft software around and find my pc game burried deep in the rack.

I buy my games from gameplay.com and Steam. Not gone into a shop for many years to buy a game, the last game a bought in a shop was Battlefield 1942 when it first came out, and when was that first released? Its all online purchases for me now.

You are right. They are broken again. I thought they fixed that after i imitated a union boss, complete with suspenders, kicking open the door of the forum thread, demanding that they fixed the polls...looks like I'll have to do it all over again...yeesh... I hope you are all aware that hiring out rainbow coloured suspenders is not cheap!!

I too tend to pre-order retail games. I've pretty much decided to never you EB/Gamestop for anything ever again. I now use gogamer for my retail boxes (and that goes for my console games as well) and I think I've got between 40-50 digital downloads from several different places.

I always get the retail version. I like collecting boxes, etc... If I sell my games collection, I'll probably make about $10,000. I really don't want to think about the money I actually spent on them though. >.>
