Actually, before even asking about a particular game versus a particular set of PC Specs, it's best to know the basics about PC game performance.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The Basics

The order of importance of the main components when considering GAME performance is Video CARD first (and onboard video chips simply DO NOT COUNT). When choosing a video card, the second most important consideration is POWER, so a good brand power supply that produces plenty of Amps is next in importance. An adequate amount of good quality main memory RAM comes next in importance, before the CPU is considered. The overall performance of the CPU is more important than its core speed, but always remember that the CPU is only item four out of the key components to consider when evaluating game performance capability.

The storage subsystem is actually of only minor influence in affecting game performance, and you may safely ignore the Urban Myths about "RAID0". That idea is strictly a chimera.

When shopping for game PCs, or just for a video card upgrade, ignore the first number of the four, if the name has that many in it. The performance level is revealed by the three trailing digits, and game-capable cards START OUT from those with a "600" level in their names, as long as there is not also an "SE", "LE", Hypermemory, or Turbocache modifier included (some of the older cards, such as the Geforce 6600 and Radeon X600, were only borderline or even worse when new, and should be ignored today).

Among power supply brands, there are a great many you cannot trust, and a relative few that you can depend upon. Here are most of the names that you can trust: Enermax, Fortron, OCZ, PC Power & Cooling, Seasonic, Sparkle, and Zalman.

P.S. Please don't waste the members' time, and the forum's space, on unanswerable requests for help from "another dimension" or timeline. If the games under development have no announced requirements (such as Assassins Creed for the PC did not when I wrote my comments originally), queries about it don't belong here.

No you can't run 360 games on a PC, you would need a 360 for that

Hey quick question...can you run Assasin's creed on a laptop? I have 1gb Ram, a pentium 2.5 ghz and an Nvidia video card with 512 mb of ram on it. Just curious as to whether or not i'm going to be able to handle the game before i buy it. I run Tabula Rasa fairly smoothly right now so I figured it wouldn't be a huge issue.

Hey there friends. Can I run Bioshock with this PC or should i get the XBOX 360 version. The same question goes for Assissan's Creed when it comes out for the PC.

WIN XP SP2

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual core 3800 2.01 GHz

2.00 GB of ram

SLI configuration 2x Nvidia geforce 8600 GTS

and the SB X-Fi card.

Thanks alot. I have yet to play these games, but I really want to. Should i go PC or xbox360. Both are in the same spot and are hooked up to the same monitor. So it's not a couch or pc chair issue.

hi. i was thinking about upgrading my graphics card from an 8500 gt to an 8800 gts. i have 2 questions about that. 1, if i leave both the 8500 gt and the 8800 gts in there, will sli work? i mean does sli only work if the graphics cards are the same models? 2, i have been searching amazon, and there are about 5 different brands of what appears to be the same graphics card and the prices range from about 260 to 450 dollars. is there a reason for this or should i just get the cheap version? thank you.

1. The two cards in Crossfire or SLI must be the same model, with the same characteristics, although brand doesn't entirely matter.

2. I've been most satisfied with BFG and eVGA branded nVIDIA cards, and least satisfied with PNY.

3. The price differences may relate to factory overclocking, but is also often due to far superior warranty and service support from the higher priced ones.

AMD athon xp 2500 + 1.8ghz

1022 ram

radeon 9700 pro

zero030

Halo 2

CPU: 2 Ghz Pentium 4 equivalent processor (or x64)
RAM: 1 GB
Hard Drive Space: 7 GB
Video Card: DX9 graphics card: WDDM driver, PS 2.0/32BPP, At least nVidia "6000" or ATI x700 or above (Note: error there)
Online Multi-player: Internet connection for Games for Windows – LIVE
Optical Drive: DVD-ROM drive
OS: Windows Vista

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The CPU is fine, but running on the Minimum of anything is always a problem. The above is a set of requirements that I think were available on the Microsoft Games' site. I copied and pasted them into a text file. I've had to edit the word CL*SS out of the first line and substitute "Equivalent".
I don't immediately recall whether the 9700 Pro is quite the equal of an X700, although I think that it probably is (and I don't look things up on GPU Review every time {once in awhile only} for the posters here. They can do that themselves now that they know there is a good place to do that).
http://www.gpureview.com
You can compare the two at GPU Review if you want to. And while we're at it, that number I see for an nVIDIA card probably should have two 6's and only two 0's, making it a Geforce vanilla 6600. The Radeon 9700 Pro is almost certainly its equal.
I would anticpate that the animations will be occasionally sluggish for you. I can't guess whether you will find that a problem, or if you are used to it by now, as old as the 9700 Pro has gotten (incidentally, I happen to have an "oldish" PC with one of those in it, a loaner that I keep on hand for the grandkids to borrow).
WHAT? So what if you couldn't run the new games think of the other great games out there that you can play. Dude, I don't have a graphics card cos' I can't afford one and I use intel extreme graphics
and I still enjoy playin' games like Fallout, Diablo 2, Dungeon Siege 2, etc.
The Sims Complete Collection Help ! Can't Install !! Hi everyone Here's the issue ..
I bought The Sims Complete Collection today. Excited~I went home to install it on my new notebook < running Windows Vista Home Premium, 2 gig Intel duo processor, 160gig HD- partitioned, 1 gig ram ... bla bla > inserted the CD, got to the install wizard and clicked next. Then I got this message - Sorry there is not enough disk space on . 3600mb required and only 0mb free. Huh ?
K so I've been reading and here there are problems of all kinds with this game. The steps I have taken to try to resolve the issue < as per advice of EA.com and the help file on my Sims disk > are as follows:
-I have tried running the set up in Windows Xp compatibility mode - same error,
-I tried in a new user account on Vista - same error,
-the XP compatibility mode in new acct - same error.
-I have tried to run as admin from the set up in the cd folder and I get the same error.
So really I just don't know why I would get an error like that. I've played alot of sims on all kinds of systems and have had many issues, but not enough space on a new machine?
Also, what's with the . in the error message? The wizard had not even asked me which drive or what location I wanted to install, but rather tells me I don't have enough space ON . ??? Whaa ?
Any help would be appreciated. I would really like to start playing
Thanks Mars
The odds are on the order of about one such from each 10,000 laptops sold. Continue the questions in Hardware, if it's necessary.
XFX 8800 GTS
4GB of RAM
q6600 CPU
Is this enough to get 20+ fps from Crysis and be future proof or should i just shut up and wait until the 9 series is out and see how it goes?
is that the new GTS? anyway a E6750 and 2GB of Ram would be fine. The Cryengine is probably going to be the standard for all games to come so if you play Crysis you're fine for the future.
