So i want to connect 2 computers to one monitor, to see if i can connect them both to the internet. I think i have the correct cables. is there a way to have them both working on the same monitor, maybe switch between the 2?

If your monitor have multiple inputs, you can have both computers powered up and switch between inputs. So, yes.

if the monitor only has one input you could get an hdmi or dvi switch, depending on what you need. HDMI switches are better since most don't require to be powered. I have a DVI switch also but it requires power so its not something i use.

You can either use a "KVM Switch" or like others have said use different inputs on the monitor (depends if you have 2 x keyboards and 2 x mice or want to use just one pair).
