rogue spear was a lot of fun, but I wouldnt think of it being one of the best MP games around... Call Of Duty is damn good, as is Counter Strike.

Tribes 2 or Quake 2... Ive always been into sims like Ravenshield or Opflashpoint, but T2 and Q2 were always so overly rewarding to play...

Most of my online gaming has been spent with FPSs, so here are four that I've spent the most time with and enjoyed the most:

No specific order:

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault
Call of Duty
Soldier of Fortune 2: Double Helix
Battlefield 2

Diablo 2, its a seven year old game and people still play the hell out of it. That and it pretty much defined a genre

Definitely UT1999 and UT2004 - it's fast, mean and none of this 'wait for 2hrs to respawn'. It's not for the light-hearted.

cs 1.6 is definately my favorite. Not only is it a good shooter, but it works well as a platformer. Kreedz maps and surf maps rock.

Well I have only been a PC gamer for 5 years, but in that time I would have to say Soldier of Fortune 2. I played that game online for about 3 years straight. I was awesome at it online. Killrates of 40-5 was normal for me. So you can just imagine why I loved it so much.

CS..been playing it since 1999. Yes there are many other great games, but no other game has lasted me this long. You should remake this thread but with a poll consisting of the most popular choices.

Imagine CS with crysis graphics *drool*.

Counterstrike

Its been out since when? Late 1998 or early 1999?  And its still going strong!  A mod started by Gooseman turns into quite possibly the most popular online shooter ever created.  Amazing success story, amazing gameplay, stable, beautiful in all its forms, cool guns...anything else?

I also want to mention Joint Operations.  It has so much more depth than Battlefield games, with gigantic maps, vehicles, interesting weapoins (first game I ever shot a mortor in!)...yet its the most underappreciated online shooter ever.  Truly a sad story.

Another vote for SOF2.  That's the game that got me starting on the PC.  Never even made through the single player campaign because I couldn't get away from the multiplayer long enough.  I still crank it up every once in a while.

nobody has mentioned SNIPER ELITE.  definetly a great and fun FPS in all the ways.  not much "run n gun" but some do.  long range sniping while others try to snipe you.  it has a great bullet cam.

easy question.

NONE.

Don't play online - never will - couldn't care less. A game is fully complete WITHOUT a multiplayer online version. Gamespot and other sites who rate a game poorly because it has a weak multiplayer, or no multiplayer, do NOT understand real gamers.

Hardcore PC gamers are COMPLETELY different than Hardcore Online PC Gamers.

Never met an online game I could not do without. Online versions are just for people who have tons of free time on their hands, can memorize all the maps, program macros, and spend all of their time perfecting their game. People with a couple hours a week can't reasonably expect to play online and be competitive.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.  I didn't realize I wasn't a real gamer.  Why didn't you spare us all that and just say that you suck at online games.

Many will argue that Counter-Strike is the best multiplayer game. I disagree. CS did not appeal to me. I prefer more team oriented games like the Battlefield series. Battlefield 2 was definitely the best in the series. Didn't really like Vietnam. 1942 was okay. Day of Defeat: Source is MY favourite online shooter to date. I love how it's quite team oriented and that the maps are smaller resulting in intense close quarters battles. Graphics are still very nice after 2 years.
