Dawn of War: Soulstorm

Yes everybody, it would seem another expansion is coming out for Dawn of War, this one is called Soulstorm. The info was leaked by 1up when showing off some pages from the latest Games for Windows.

The Expansion will show off the Dark Eldar it would seem, and that is what is known at the moment.

From what i know of the lore ( which isn't much so i could be wrong ), Dark Eldarresembles its untainted counterpart in alot of ways.....i don't think it's gonna add alot into the game as a new race....

but what the heck. i like DoW, i like Relic, and if these 2 stick together, i'm A-ok with anything. :D

true true...to that end, they wear little armor and rarely make use of armored support units.....i wonder how Relic's gonna pull this off.

i think DE is gonna feature expensive elite troops, depending on quality over quantity. there're probably less unit types, but more Warp capabilities. maybe they can ( should ) incorporate their scavenging nature as well, such as fantastic bonuses that are available only through capturing units and buildings, etc....just my 2 cents :)

I think you have some valid point, but regarding capture ?Hmm that could be interesting, probably be a way to gain requisition.. but i think that might be more for the campaigns, imagine missions where you have to go raiding and enslaving civilians and defenders alike, that could be a little fun don't you think ?

Something with you didn't like the campaign of dark crusade because it didn't have a story ? But it did, it just wasn't presented in the way that most campaigns do it, and yes there probably was too much skirmish in it, but who knows ? Perhaps relic learned a few lessons and if they decide to make another meta map campaign, it might reflect that.

@zulgarim: Well it could indeed use some work, but again if they would make another, i think they are aware of that.

I really wanted Tyranids but sadly I heard that they were a hoax.

Well Relic has stated that the engine wouldn't be able to do it in a satisfactory way.

I guess I should of said more, by "A lot of work" I mean the AI more than anything. The meta map is risk style- awesome. But since the AI is so poor that it needs to gang up on you and has tactics that fall short after constant rushing it ruined what could of been an excellent meta map game. The AI should of played "fair" in other words and not been so tactically weak that it needed to cheat.

An example of good AI would be the AI Skirmish Mod, which turns the boring offline skirmish mode into challenging, but also varied and enjoyable battles having the AI use different strategies and more advanced trains of thought.

@lucky326 : Well so far all this with someone else than relic devloping seems like rumours started by someone without any evidence at all. If you look at 1up.com now it mentions that relic has something to do with it, which seems a little odd if it was somebody else, wouldn't you say ? And well why should it change after 2 expansions and a game ?

@ Zulgaines: yes the Ai could use some work, but as mentioned, it might be one of the things Relic have learned, CoH might have given some thoughts there as well.

Or maybe Relic will give some hard evidence about it before 30th, I hope so. I also hope there will be more then just one race added.Not necessarily another race,althoughtitwouldbecool, maybe improved Army Painter or some form of factions withon existing races, like worshipping different chaos gods for Chaos, or different traits for different SM chapters.

I want tyranids, instead of a expansion they should just make a new game.... Dawn of war is too old to make new expansion for.... probably be worth buying

Well it is better than nothing, but i was surprised by this as i had expected Dawn of War 2.. mostly because relic said that Dark Crusade was the last expansion.ImperialDane

i guess.... but i would of loved to see a DoW 2 (with tyranids :D)

Well perhaps in DoW 2 we might see some tyranids, though my first wish would be the imperial guard.

@Stefip: Those are some good ideas, that might create a little extra difference.. though it might be a little hard to balance i think.

Relic is soon gonna run out of races to choose from... the only ones beside Dark Eldar is Tyranids..

anything else is those other human armies such as the Ordo Hereticus and Ordo Malleus.

and of course the lesser chaos armies as the Lost and the Damned.

I don't care that much about the Dark Eldars, but anything that gives me an excuse to play more Dawn of War is by default a must buy for me.

I do wonder if this means we won't see a DoW2 anytime soon, though.

Completely agree, the AI was weak and the difficulty was cheap , the AI starting on alot of maps with two bases and constant rushing got old fast.

ive been a big DoW fan but this is just unacceptable. the DoW engine is WAY outdated, the graphics are mediocre, and the AI just sucks. i am NOT buying soulstorm just look at the race they are adding i mean come on u can do better than dark eldar. oh yea to all of u ppl who say DoW engine cant handle tyranids ur wrong. 1) theres a tyranid mod and 2) the DoW developers even said the engine can handle tyranids, just not the way relic wants it. so until THQ and relic get their act together, im just gonna play WiC :)

Are relic not the developers ? I mean it is them that have come up with all the other cool stuff, so if they feel they can't do it in a way that satisfies them, perhaps they have a point ? Sure you can do a mod.. but is that the same ? Plus i wouldn't say it is way outdated, a little old yes, but graphics aren't everything, if they are.. well then, why aren't you off playing shooters and stuff ? They usually got lots of shiny graphics. Besides if you think they are just adding a race.. well perhaps it is best you don't buy it, as it would seem you are slightly oblivious to all the things relic have done with the DoW series over time.. and what they have done with CoH.

@sSubZerOo: Eh why is that? Sure it is not the best, but it is functional, and relic can't change it even though they want to do to some contract they made with gamespy.

it is true about gamespy, they are absolutely pants, everythign bout the game impresses me except 4 this

nothin bad bout graphics, good gameplay, AI isnt 2 bad, and generally its the way that online play is managed that is dissapointing

I'm afraid we don't know much about any other races about Dark Eldar, as the game hasn't even been officially announced yet, though i'll take a gamble and say that there probably won't be tyranids, because otherwise i think 1up.com would have blabbered that out as well..ImperialDane

Well first of all Games for windows should be out about now, otherwise info has finally been released by the Relic Community manager and we've gotten a Podcast plus 3 screenshots.

There are some cool details and such.

DoW is great, DoW 2 would be good but i dont think its nesscessary, the online is great, the graphics although are not mind blowing, are still very effective, i think they look better than many newer RTS titles.

$10 bucks says that they are doing dark eldar because GW is about to do a new miniture range. The other race i recon willl be a direct counter to the dark gods, there force will either Sisters of battle (Witch hunters) or mabey a Daemon Hunters army.

ANy who i welcome it- DoW is a completly under rated game and as long as it is continued to be supported by the developer i am a very happy man...
