your best bet would be to open up your yellow pages and call up about 5 or 6 computer stores in your area, tell them your wanting quotes, tell them what your wanting, and then go for the place which offers the cheapest price.

www.directcanada.com has very good prices and free shipping if you order more than 300$. And only 6% taxes if you don't live in BC.

BTW 2000 canuck dollars = 1944.32 USD.

If you want to buy a new pc mostly for Crysis, you better wait for the game to actually ship, then go over the benchmarks.

go to www.IBUYPOWER.com

or

www.CYBERPOWERPC.com

really good computer websites i bought mine from them dirt cheap compared to alienwares 4000 price i got mine for 1800

honestly you dont really need a quadcore but hey its your computer but if you do want a quadcore that bad its gna run you up, i would reccommned Core 2 Duo higher end modelds instead of 1099 for just a processor that will probably overheat and sound like a jet engine when you turn it on

no crysis does notutilize all 4 cores that is a dumb statement a Core 2 Duo saves time and money and a hassle and you still can get a good processor and overclock, crysis is the FIRST game to utilize direct X 10 to SOME of its compacity we won't need quad cores for a while single cores are still not outdated trust me we are just making it to dual core within this next gen, i am an I.T. i know what i am talking about

and if anything halo you should be in the xbox forums not here wasting time and money

well honestly, idk if it's just dell or what but they're selling the Q6600 for $150 less than a Core 2 E6700. any reason behind that?

http://www.tigerdirect.com/

One of the best & cheapest computer parts web sites I know of, I just ordered a video card & some ram off of 'em cheap a few days ago.

My uncles budy buys from them all the time. you may also try (though I have never used them) http://www.newegg.com/

But with 2g's you can order a really nice PC from dell.

because the rest of Dell's parts will run you up to 3000 dollars for the same computer, dell's way of selling is giving you a major discount on one thing but charging full price for the rest to trick you into beliveing your gettin a good deal

2000 dollars cdn is enough to get you a pretty good dual-core $300-$400 mark, AND a 8800 graphics card with 2gigs of memory. That'll definetly play crysis pretty well.

Everybody's too worried that you need an extreem pc to run crysis. If Crysis wouldn't run on mid and low-end pcs, crytek would be making a huge mistake. Yes, a premium pc will make crysis look prettier, but you don't need a screaming pc to run crysis. According to crytek, the game should be able to run on a single-core cpu (I imagine not very well, but it should be possible).

Get a nice pc, don't break your bank buying premium parts. The highest-end parts are not worth getting unless you have money to burn or you are an enthusist.

Yeah that's true. Wow free monitor nice! Well i didn't mean that message to be slightly demeaning(which it prolly kinda sounded)cuz i was just seriously asking if that was a good price. i'm pretty new to the whole "pc gamer" thing so haha but actually what i'm considering doing is getting all that but instead of getting the 8800GTX, i'll just get the 8300 for now and then when the 9 series comes out, i'll replace the 8300 with that.

Hmm... well the problem is that I (as stated before) am pretty much new to pc gaming and so building a comp seems seriously scary haha but i actually heard that if you get the pieces and then take them to like OfficeMax, they'll actually build it for you for like $50.

totally up to you my opinion, get it now, prices are good as you can see, i would go with new egg buy the parts wait for em to ship then take it to a office depot, but rmemebr if you are goin to get that config get it with this:

4gbram

8800 GTSor higher

a 600 watt or 550 watt powersupply and good cooling

Ah ok. some ppl were telling me to wait but idk it's like wait for what? lol yeah everyone recommends new egg for this stuff so i'll go check them out. and yeah if i get that config i'll get it with that stuff you recommended ;)

the only thing is that im confused about mobo's. i'm not sure what the differences are between different kinds and if it'll be compatible with my cpu etc.

I just built the PC in my sig about three weeks ago.

I went to Newegg. They're awesome! I first bought a Rosewill 750 Watt power supply, but it turns out they're not that great. Orthos would bomb out on me because of power issues when I had my E6850 at 3.2gh (or so I understand - not too knowledgeable when it comes to OCing...yet). So, two and a half weeks later, I call up Newegg, tell them I want to swap out my PSU for an upgrade, and BAM! No issues or hassles what-so-ever. Got a smokin' OCZ 1010 Watt PSU for an extra hundred bucks. Props to NewEgg customerservice.

Anyway, the E6850 is probably the best value vs. performance in my opinion. I'm not sure anything will truly be taking advantage of quad core CPUs any time soon. That's the way everyone makes it seem at least.

Oh, and you don't want to mess with Dell. Unless they've changed the way things work over there recently, all the hardware is proprietary, meaning if you want an upgrade, you gotta through dell. Not to mention their customer service sucks!

Godamnit! What the hell is with the gamespot forums eating my spaces between words! So frusterating!

The E6850 eh? Yeah I'll have to check that out. and as you said, it's hard to say when games are going to start to be optimized for quad-cores and it seems like everyone that has a core 2 duo is really happy so... i'll have to check this stuff out! :P

Oh geez really!?! if that's true then yeah i'll prolly blow off getting that dell comp ;)

Hey, for the people that don't know the Canadian dollar is actually at 97 cents US now, so the price difference (if you buy from stores that give you the proper exchange rate) is almost negligible.

First, I will buy the parts from newegg. An evga 8800 GTS320 MB and a Q6600 should be a good combo. Don't get a sound card though since you are buying vista. A good monitor is the LG 20" 1680 by 1050, 2ms response time, 5000:1 contrast ratio.

dont get a sound card?!!

ok in case you dont know higher end sound cards help with frame rates, if you want smoother sound and for the SOUND to keep up with th eGRAPHICS get a sound card like Creative X-FI SB

please re-think before you post info you don't know

Not to mention onboard sound cardsdon't give you enough channels. It kills the gaming experience when sound effects get cut of because you don't have many channels.

Yeah, it was seriously bothering me in BioShock, so I went out and bought a sound card. Fixed the problem and improved my frames per second.

If you get a good motherboard, then you don't need a sound card. My mobo supports 8.1 channel

thnx ahead of time

AskForDetails

There are a few places on the internetyou could look at. Cyberpowerpc, Ibuypower, Buyxg.com, Aeoncraft.com, Pugetcomputers.com, Vigorgaming.com, avadirect.com,and velocitymicro. These guys are all build custom built computers made for pc gaming. They are independant and have excellent customer service. They use brand name parts, motherboard, video card, ram, etc. It is pretty much like you building a computer but they do it for you. The computer specs you see below is what I got from Avadirect.com few months ago it was $2500. Now you could get it for around $2100.

There is a site you could do some research about these retailers based on their customer service. Resellerratings.com is a good site where people like you and me go to and review retailers and computer builders like Cyberpowerpc. Just search for all the names i have listed above. You could see a % rating based on how well they are doing in customer service. Excellent place to do research based on the company you are dealing will. You wont want to spend $2000 and end up going through hell if you had a problem.

For your monitor, I would buy that separetly. Go to Newegg.com where they have a couple of dozen different brands of LCD monitors. Some of these sites will only have one brand monitor. If that is ok for you, then you could get a monitor from these websites.

Case: XION II Mid-Tower Case 350Watt W/ Mod Side-Panel Window (BLACK COLOR)
CPU: (Quad-Core)Intel® CoreTM 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4GHz 1066FSB 8MB L2 Cache 64-bit
Mainboard: (Quad-Core FSB1333) Asus P5N-E nForce 650i SLI Chipset LGA775 FSB1333 DDR2 Mainboard
Memory: (Req.DDR2 MainBoard)4GB (4x1GB) PC6400 DDR2/800 Dual Channel Memory (Corsair XMS2 Xtreme Memory w/ Heat Spreader)
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB 16X PCI Express Video Card
LCD Monitor: NONE
HARD DRIVE: Single Hard Drive (500GB SATA-II 3.0Gb/s 16MB Cache 7200RPM HDD)
Optical Drive: Sony Q170A 18x Double Layer Dual Format DVD+-R/+-RW + CD-R/RW Drive (BLACK COLOR)
Sound: Creative Labs SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio 24-BIT PCI Sound Card

All this for about $1900. This is what I pulled up from www.buyxg.com Like i said you can go to who ever you want and get the case, brand motherboard, video card you want. The new ATI hD2900 XT are pretty good, something to consider and option if you dont want nvidia.
