Source: Player Purchased a Virtual Egg for $69,696.00 USD

Can you believe that? A virtual Egg can be sold for a stunning $69,696.00 USD. It just happened in Planet Calypso, a MMOG that used to announce the sale of a Space Station for $330,000. Sequence of the Egg sale is as follow:

Jon "NEVERDIE" Jacobs held a public auction Sunday, inside Planet Calypso, and sold the Virtual Egg to David Storey aka Deathifier. Deathifier owns "Treasure Island" in the game, a tax generating Virtual World Destination. NEVERDIE purchased the Virtual Egg for $10,000 USD in 2006 from a gamer who completed a unique quest. The Final Chapter in the Egg's History has yet to be written as thousands of players speculate what will actually hatch from the it and if it will be worth the extraordinary price tag.

$330,000 for a virtual Space Station! $69,696.00 for a virtual Egg! Are they insane?

Reading about this game on wikipedia is depressing. It's one of those MMOs that basically simulates life and sucks up all of your time.

If I was one of the developers, I'd make that egg hatch a chicken that does nothing.

And is annoying at the least convenient times.

Your all quick to call the idea retarded but say if you were these guys and looked at it like a business venture the guy who bought this makes huge amounts of money in this and if he converted back to cash he would almost be a millionare read about it before you judge it this guy could make a killing.

Well the first guy payed 10 grand for it, and sold it for nearly 70 grand. Maybe this guy knows for a fact he can turn a profit with it. Don't be such haters guys.

True, I'm sure the guy that sold it is pretty smart and making profit. But don't forget that for him to make profit (or the next guy) there's gotta be another crazy dude with no life and loads of cash willing to throw hundreds of thousands of dollars on a virtual item... it really is pathetic.

It IS entropia, they closed it down and reopened it with a new name using cryengine 2. It still looks really bad for cryengine 2 though.

This reminds me of the time this kid sawed up his best friend due to the fact that his buddy owed him "in-game" money. His friend could not pay it back to him so he sawed his friend into 6 sections, including decapitation. He got caught because his mom walked in on him dragging his body into the addict. Not really the same thing, but it just proves the extremes some people go with these games. I will try to find the article if anyone is interested in it. Though it does show very gruesome pictures.

I call shennanigans on that tale as the age of the victim and the murderer seem to change a few times... Wouldn't be the first time someone found a gross picture and made up a story to go with it. Also, there's no word of the story on any reputable news sites. With the video-game related nature you'd think they would be all over it.

Thus, my detective skills call shenanigans.

At the start of the story the murderer is 16 and the victim is 12. By the end, the murderer is 12 and the victim is 10. Also, as i said, the only websites on the interwebs that have this story are the forum you posted and another forum, no news sites or anything. The story is credited as having happened early last year, so i think it would have been publicised a lot more. Thus, Shenanigans :P

That Saw story sounds to unreal. Only stooges would pay 70 grand for an egg that probably does nothing. Its like buying a phone that dousnt call. Or a tv that dousnt show anything. Some people......some people :| Hopefully the egg turns into a omlette at least and feeds his virtual man dinner. Or turns into a chicken that eats all the people.

This kind of thing makes me feel better when I buy something and think I over payed or spent too much. I can say to myself, "Well at lest it wasn't $70 000 on a stupid virtual egg." :)

I think the worse part is that I NEVER even heard of this game!!!! Anywhom, I still remember this dude's maple account was worth about 5k and his gf tries to get his PW, but hes very protective about it. So she tricked into somewhere where her friends beated up on him for hours, but he still refused and relentless :P hardcore. Still ^^^ the other story sounds sicker T.T

He's hoping to turn it to a profit. Either by selling the egg at a higher rate or waiting for the egg to hatch and hoping something incredible will come out. Then he can start a zoo and make people pay to see it. I believe that's how Entropia works, you buy a space station for $300,000 and turn it into a virtual club with real life performers etc. It is also highly possible all of these are publicity stunts by the developers. Every year or so, Entropia needs to get back on the map and then a story like this comes out.

it would be funny if the egg hatches and it's just an item you can find at the beginning of the game, if that's the case his reaction must be recorded and posted on youtube.

well thats the symptoms of a severely outdated system. hopefully the rest of the country will realize that, hopefully the whole of humanity will as well.

we (the world) are in times where we need to do some serious re-evaluating.... and serious system over-hauls.. need entirely new ones.
