I'm looking for a secondary monitor for editing videos (having it as the view preview and timelines on my main monitor) so colour reproduction and image quality are key more so than response times and refresh rates I have an Asus VG248QE for that stuff. will also be viewing blu rays on it most likely. So mainly around the 24" 1080p range

Nothing too pricey, I'm looking for maybe the 300-400 euro range and maybe a little more if I can manage it

I'd go withthe Asus one because it's still in your price range.

Don't forget you'll also need more than 8Gb of RAM

You want IPS

You can grab an ASUS VS24AH-P 24" for about $240

That Asus monitor does look good, much difference between the two I wonder or is it more expensive just cos it's Asus?

Oh and yeah I have 16GB RAM :)

You could easily snag a factory-calibrated IPS monitor for that price. Dell Ultrasharp monitors are some of the highest regarded professional monitors and are abundantly found in offices like Valve's. The colors, even non-professionally calibrated, are often extremely accurate.

If you don't need a wide-color gamut for photography or other types of photo editing, or if you don't need tons of connections and superfluous features - the U2412M is extremely good in terms of image quality (and color accuracy) and can be found for well under 200 euros. The Dell P2414H, which newer and a slight improvement, is slightly more than the 2412M.

Going from a normal TN to IPS monitor you will never go back the differences in color is massive

Contrast ratio of Dell is 1:2M while the Asus is 1:80M - better colors

Response time of Dell is 8ms while Asus is 6ms - more pleasent to the eye.

So yeah the asus IS better and worth the extra money IMO.

The specs are almost never correct.

I'd get the Dell, asus build quality quality is very mediocre.

Some of Dell's displays actually have less input lag than 120hz/144hz displays and they are 60hz.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005LN1JEC/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

This 23in ips from dell has .6 ms of input lag

Now it still technically has more input lag compared to a 144hz display because it's 60hz, so that's 16.67 ms of input lag that must be added for that refresh rate.

144hz is 6.94ms of input lag + display lag

I'd love if dell made a 144hz display. I've had a few of their 60hz monitors and the build quality is so much better than anything asus.

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2312hm.htm

The u2142 you listed has 9.4ms of input lag which is very low for an ips panel. Most ips displays have 20ms+ input lag, some even 30ms+

If you keep an eye on Newegg sales the Dell can go on sale for ~$240-260 about once every couple months.

Ok so I got the Dell monitor. Thanks to PredatorRules for the links though for both.

I feel the difference between both would have been wasted on me and I didn't feel like forking over 100 euro more when lots of reviews said the Dell was still a fantastic monitor

So now I will have the 144Hz monitor for competitive, smooth gaming and the Dell monitor for beauty gaming as well as editing :)

Cheers guys

I just ordered a QNIX QX2710 LED Evolution II DPort yesterday. I got it for 400 USD.

It is supposed to be one of the best monitors available right now. 27", 1440p, it can overclock to 120Hz, has a PLS display (which is an improved version of IPS), has a "5ms" lag, an incredibly high contrast ratio, and has one of the most accurate and wide color gamut available.

Just make sure to get the one that supports HDMI and or Display Port if you want to use anything other than a computer with a dual link DVI. Pixel Perfect isn't a bad idea either (it costs like 50 bucks more)

Damn that sounds like a monster monitor!

Connectivity doesn't bother me much as I literally would only be using my main rig on it. The Dell as far as I read doesn't have HDMI but I'm not worried

The biggest problem isn't really the connectivity, it is that it doesn't come with an upscale unless you buy one with more connectivity. Which isn't a problem as long as you are only hooking it up to a PC with a dual link dvi video card that can support 1440p. I got the one with HDMI/DP so I can also hook up my laptop.

The older ones use the exact same panels as Dell, Apple, HP, etc but they are the A- ratedones instead of A+ (they can potentially have up to 5 dead pixels and possibly light bleeding). That is why people recommend pixel perfect because they seller checks it for issues before sending it. This uses the PLS panel that hasn't made it into the Dell, Apple, HP etc yet.

The one other issue is that most of these Korean monitors are coming from Korea which means if you want warrenty service, it will cost like $150 to ship back (shipping to the US is typically free from Amazon or Ebay)

I can tell you that the jump to 27" and 1440p makes a huge difference (I have used 1440p at work). It has higher pixel density and more screen real estate.

I'm too late... F***!

I would have suggested the Asus 23" PA23Q Pro Art monitor. Best budget IPS panel around.

It's a lot more expensive than the Dell alternative (though the Dell's I recommended technically use e-IPS and not true IPS), because a 24" Dell e-IPS goes for ~$190 and that PA23Q monitor is about $290 (where I could find at least). It also has one less inch (no 1200p). I'm sure its color and color accuracy is superb though - I'd really like to demo that monitor.

The Asus PA238Q is £230 in the UK and can be shipped to Ireland for £20 from Amazon. And the Dell that he is getting is £225... Its smaller but has better colour reproduction as well as having a higher pixel density.

Either way both monitor's are good for what they do especially for the price.

You want a Plasma or OLED TV
