Ok so I have quite a bit of games that either require or recommend a controller on steam so I was gonna get a Xbox 360 controller but there are so expensive I just want a 10-20$ controller so if anybody has one they could recommend that would be great (p.s. must be just like a Xbox 360 controller)

Thanks - Fexal

Lawl. Also if you can't afford a 360 right away you should just save up. Playing a 360-supported game with an off-brand is an immense pain. You could use xpadder, but why bother.

Could've recommended you the Razer one but it's even more expensive.

I'd go with their advice, but honestly, they are going to add support to the Xbox One controller some time soon, and I expect that to be the absolute best PC controller on the market when they add the drivers to Windows. Of course, it will be pricey, so just go with the wired 360 one to save money. Wal Mart sells them for $24 if you don't want to wait.

@donalbane: I hope it's soon. My 360 controller is starting to annoy me and I want a new one.

This. I'm still with my old Rumblepad 2 and it's starting to die.

Okay, for controllers on the PC there are a few different routes to take, my main suggestion is to NOT cheap out too much or else you'll probably end up with a poor or broken experience and end up spending more money on replacing low quality parts.

My first recommendation is to buy the new edition of wireless Xbox 360 controller with the improved D-Pad and a wireless adapter for the PC, the improved D-Pad is a must for games that utilize it such as new or retro 2D sidescrollers.

http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B00E0OB7MW/

Another option for a great wireless controller experience is the Wii-U Pro Controller with a wireless receiver. This particular reciever can emulate a Xbox 360 controller and will be supported in all games that natively support the 360:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E6553PW/

For cheap, non-wireless option I recommend just your standard old Wired Xbox 360 controller, unfortunately you cannot get these with the improved D-Pad, but there are options for modding it and buying the new D-pad separately if you're feeling adventurous

And lastly if you absolutely must go the cheap route I hear good things about the Logitech F series of controllers, they can also emulate Xbox 360 input (X-input for short). So they can also be plug-and-play on many PC games. The only downside of the F310 is that it has a pretty short cord, and the sticks are closer to PS3 style than the 360 style if that sort of thing bothers you.

I picked up one of the Gamestop brand 360 controllers for my PC. The thumbsticks on the Microsoft brand 360 controllers tend to get loose after a while...

@donalbane: The innards of the new xbox one controller are of lesser quality though and easier to break though. The joysticks are now made out of flimsy plastics instead of copper pieces and hard plastics that don't come loose.

I didn't know that.

For me the only option is 360 controller tbh. It's perfect.

If you want to play any games where aiming is a big deal, the $20 controllers really won't do. Every review I read about them complains about the analog sticks not being sensitive enough. I made the mistake of buying one and putting small pressure on the analog sticks got no response. Horrible for precision. VERY bad for FPS games.

Microsoft really are worthless fucking pigs for making the 360 controller so disgustingly expensive, but there is honestly no good alternative. Sorry man.

go to amazom.com etekcity sells double pack for $15. has rumble feature, and are very high rated. I think it also comes with software cd, not sure, it looks like a ps3 controller, or this http://www.amazon.com/Controller-Gamepad-Joystick-Computer-xBox360/dp/B00IXHP3A4/ref=sr_1_7?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1401172025&sr=1-7&keywords=xbox+360+pc

I just stick with the 360 controller myself, but you can find knockoffs of the controller for a bit cheaper.

http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wired-Controller/dp/B000B6MLTQ/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1401198340&sr=8-6&keywords=wired+360+controller

Or used if you want to go that route.
