you really like to call people chuckles dont you? did you hear that on one of your saturday morning cartoons?

here again is another case of a company skirting their responsibilities. "LETS JUST MAKE THEM PAY TO BETA... THEN WE DONT HAVE TO PAY PLAYTESTERS TO DO IT FOR US!!!"...

all you are doing is playtesting their game.... and paying THEM to do it. the game isnt even in beta... it is in alpha.... and EARLY alpha. they didnt offer the game early for you... they offered it early FOR THEM.

you are clearly delusional and dont realize that the very same companies that you are worshiping are milking you for all you are worth. if you are fine with that.... then great... keep letting them take your money and offer you nothing in return.

Tell you what. When you stop being a moron, I'll stop calling you and Birdy chuckles. But since that will never happen, I guess I'll keep on.

Oh man! I paid $30 to test a game. I'm broken. My life is ruined. Except the fact that I now own the game. Not only that, but the price will go up and I'll still own the game. So I got a discount, and I get to play a game and give my feedback on it. You and your friend over there are the only ones that seem to have a problem with that. Not really sure why.

Worshiping? No one is worshiping anybody. As I've already said, I did get something: I got the game. It's not going to magically disappear one day when it's out of early release. How fucking stupid can you possibly be?

Are these people so poor that they're afraid to throw a couple of dollars at a game?

They act like $30 is a life or death investment...

Get a job you fucking bums.

.... you've got to be all kinds of stupid to think the cost is the issue.

but then no surprises from this forum.

and to the guy comparing "Day Z" to "Battlefield 4" ... oh dear god.... where to start with that pathetic comparison....

good for you and the probably will only be 10k consistant players playing a limited 40 player zombie game in an open empty world for hours on end, how is that preference even remotely relevant to a comparison?

how is a standalone that is taken 2 years to even enter pre-alpha of a small ambitiousness game compare to a multiplatform game with production qualities far higher in the same time-frame having to work across 6 difference gaming system types, having to support 500k-1000-k at peak across multiple platforms in any way shape or form a fair comparison?

oh no those network issues.... we had a friggin what 2 week beta? compared to what day z's year long "payed alpha/beta" .... irrelevant as you are playing the product now. and you have payed for it.

Your right ofcourse airshock... "the game never goes away" no it doesn't, but peoples interest will, having payed access to no-where near finished products is the same as pre-ordering or playing the real thing. only... people lose patience, people want the complete thing. not a 2-3 year long project that is still nowhere near ready.

but yea, those targeting BF4 as some "ownage" when other than the initial server issues no fkin kickstarted or early access tripe has even come close.

Holy shit dude. Learn to read and write. You're killing everyone here with your lack of communication skills, no wonder people are having problems with you...

If cost isn't the issue, then the issue is exactly what I was talking about earlier : lack of instant gratification. The solution? Maturity. Grow up, get patience. Fans pay $30 for early access because we have patience. Smart people know good things don't happen all at once.

Also, when writing a post - pick something to write about, and write about it. Don't just shit out a bunch of thoughts onto the page - it's disgusting and gets nobody anywhere. If you think you're so fucking smart to be critical of this game's launch structure - then how would you have feasibly made it? Please, post something comprehensible and substantial.

typical KH dribble....

HUUUUURRRR GUYS IMMA RIGHT CUZ I CAN CALL PEOPLE IMMATURE

you take the same approach to everyone that has a different opinion to you, even when you are so obviously wrong it is painful. i think the only one needing maturing here is you KH.

So I finally bought the game and I had a bit of fun. It will be much better when they rework the melee weapons. As of right now you're almost assured to get hit by a zombie with how broken the melee is. Plus bandages are not as common as they were in the mod so you just slowly bleed to death. It will also be a better experience when we can turn off the awful mouse acceleration.

You can tear up clothes to make rags that are used as bandages.

I believe it's only been in actual development for one year. This isn't pre-alpha and it's certainly not JUST an alpha. I know they're throwing that term around but the more I play the more I realize how much has actually been put into the game. It's far more complex than I gave it credit for in the beginning.

I don't think many will lose complete interest. Again, this product isn't that unfinished. It's missing a few features but the foundation is solid. And it most certainly will not take 2 or 3 years to finish. That's absurd to think.

Like I said, there's A LOT of complexity to this game. If you think you can do it in real life, give it a try in-game. You may just be surprised.

honestly, he should have just stuck to modding. his ambition far outreaches his ability.

Unless you take a chance and try, how are you ever going to gain experience in how to make a game.

Maybe it'll be great, Maybe it won't. But atleast they tried and can look at it and say, " Well this and those things worked but those things didn't, Lets see what we can do to fix those things" Most of those that are considered "legends" within the gaming industry started with making games with only a handful of people and that was way before developer tools were available to download or purchase.

Besides if he wants to get into the industry then what will look better on his resumè?, A couple of mods or one/several games?

a couple of VERY well done mods have gotten people jobs working at Valve on some of the most prestigious games to ever release to the market.... im pretty sure he would have been better off making good mods, than making one seriously messed up full game.

I suppose that's where we're going to disagree. I'd rather people try to make one or more games so to get experience in the process of making a game and something to present to potential employers within the industry. Display their creativity and abillity to make something from the ground up.

Making mods isn't a bad thing but you're just adding content to a already finished game, and while it takes alot of work it pales in comparison to actually making the game. It's much safer no doubt but who ever brought something new and fresh in the industry by just making safe choices?

Ya I guess I expected it to be more like the mod but I was wrong, they have expanded on a lot. It will be very interesting watching this game come together,

So I've put in a handful of hours into DayZ Standalone.

The verdict? It's fantastic. This alpha lays groundwork for an excellent game. Let me lay down a list of positives and negatives.

+ Graphics have been completely reworked (all models, textures, etc.) Player models look amazingly detailed, as do the clouds, ambient occlusion, weapons, animations, etc.
+ New UI is fantastic. Everything is drag and drop. You can bind items to hotkeys, and use any item you pick up in melee.

+ New reworked Chernarus is mindblowing. Cherno feels 10x bigger than it used to, because you can actually go inside nearly ALL the buildings now. And there are tons of detailed rooms (some buildings have dozens), with loot scattered and hidden throighout.

+ Huge amounts of customization compared to the past. I've already come across dozens of different types of hats, as well as tons of different clothes to wear. Some clothes provide armor (I think?), while others provide more slots for equipment. You can now carry a decent amount of equipment on your clothes depending on what you're wearing. You can also tear up clothes you don't need for rags.

+ Melee system reworked. Everything can be used in melee, including your fists. Swings are now in arcs, so you can swing at multiple zombies in front of you (possibly hitting more than one at once I believe).

+ Tons of loot. Lots of crafting items, books, clothes, etc. - it's great fun exploring.

+ Fluid control and movement compared to past.

+ Fast load times. Get ingame in 10 seconds.

As for a few negatives...

- Buggy as all hell. Tons of random bugs on everything. Game is mostly playable, but lots of tiny bugs. Often corpses of players you kill float away.

- No vehicles yet

- Hard to group up with friends

Okay so I am in agreement with you up until the point you said hard to group up with friends... It kinda is the point I mean I wouldn't want a group of 5 people that walk around and just go randomly killing, at least if they are spawned separate they have to communicate to find each other etc... etc...

Despite how you want, that's how the game is typically played (groups of friends). Lone wolfs are the minority. They should give everyone the option of the general area of where to spawn, just how the DayZ Mod has it implemented. That way you don't have to waste as much time killing yourself to get to the fun you want to have.

The dayz mod had that? When I stopped playing me and my friends did our fair share of suicides to get near each other. What I have noticed is that the standalone seems to spawn me in the general area of where I last died.

Also I cant help but feel the melee weapons are ineffective when it comes to zombies. It took like 5 swings of my fire axe to kill a zombie attacking me and by that time you are assured to get hit. It also seems that getting hit by a zombie in the standalone is basically an instant bleed unlike in the mod.

Yup, the DayZ mod has had it for many months now. And it's needed it forever, in my opinion. In stand alone, my spawns are completely erratic. One time I got spawned in Cherno 5 times in a row, other times it's completely random. Fire Axe's shouldn't need as many hits to kill a zombie (if the axe is in good condition). I've taken out zombies in a couple hits with a fire axe. Best strategy when it comes to zombies are to avoid them altogether.

Anyone know what engine they're using for this?

Early access is good for all the naysayers out there. You get to mould the game plus it's £10 cheaper than it will be when released.

i believe theyre using a modified version of the Real Virttuality 3 engine

Shame, I hoped they would use the RV4. Just bought it anyway, Lol

Just have 3.7hrs on it but so far all i've been doing is wondering in the dark till some zombie spots me. The real time night/day is silly.

How do you fight a zombie when you hold weapon you have no light anymore and can't see sh*t. So far only weapon i found was a shovel and took 1 swing and could never swing it again. Anyway hope it gets better so far kinda boring.

Might be helpful to join a day time server? I heard night-time isn't that dark anyways, so maybe your brightness isn't correctly set?

I also hate the way they make night in this game. It's extremely unrealistic to the point of impacting game play. Eventually your eyes will adjust to the dark and you will be able to see QUITE a bit. DayZ doesn't portray that properly.

Really? I didn't have that problem. Unless your talking inside a house which honestly with no moonlight isn't all that unrealistic. Outside I have little trouble though I guess it does depend on the contrast of your monitor.

Also does the razer force mouse acceleration off actually work in Dayz if so that's awesome.

Not really sure how to set up my monitor to make it better. Because it's at the point where I just log off if I can't find a day time server.

Yeah, you can set the settings to compensate. Just turn them down.

If there is any way you can calibrate your monitor's brightness settings (or the game's), do it - night time shouldn't be so dark that it's unplayable. If possible, just turn up the game's brightness or gamma until you can see - you're not really cheating the settings, you'd just be setting the brightness to where it should be in the first place.

Seems for once there's an issue that trolls universally agree on - preordering games for half price is a complete rip off. After all - they let you play the game...and it's not finished...so we got ripped!

#132 Posted by IvanElk (3798 posts) -

Look at it this way we paid for half a game and we got a half finished game, yet it will slowly but steadily increase. Minecraft was the same way and no one had a problem with that.

People pre-order games at full price just because they can, yet no one argues that pre-ordering games are a rip off. It's the same thing - you're paying for an incomplete game. The only difference is that you don't get the option to see how the progess is going by being able to play it yourself.

A half complete video game is not worth half the price of a full complete game. A half complete video game is worth nothing.

Don't these kind of games run out of things to do quickly?

The opposite, really. It's not a theme park. I've had hundreds of hours of fun in the DayZ mod simply hunting down other players.

But this is running out of things to do because it is not meant to be CoD, it is meant to be a survival game. The fun is supposed to be in surviving, not KOSing everyone because you stocked up on all your needs and got bored. That is the major flaw with this game, the end game becomes a free for all with nothing left but to kill each other.

I have to agree as well this "pay us to alpha test our game" trend is getting old. Back in the day you got free demos to test a game out for yourself, now we are paying to test their unfinished games for them. Talk about a 360. Another problem with this is in a game like this you have a risk of a lot of the population getting bored with it before it even released as a full product.

Hey look, another troll who can't justify his logic. If you pre-order a game and get a free demo, you're still getting a worse deal than if you preordered the game for half price. People who don't want to test the game don't have to - they simply save 50% for pre-ordering the game, which is one of the best possible deals you can get when it comes to gaming.

So what are you complaining about again?

"Developers are ripping us off by only charging people half price!"

This is the ultimate Einstein argument made on Gamespot. You're a true embarrassment to PC gamers everywhere.

"Endgame". Lmao, where do you hear that this is an MMORPG? This game isn't about getting food and water. Maybe you should play it sometime and learn about it for yourself - you'd learn the game isn't an MMORPG.

Obviously you have absolutely zero clue as to what a troll is, as your definition is someone who disagrees with KHAndAnime. I was merely stating my opinion, if you don't like other people doing that on a message board gtfo.

Show me where it said "50% off if you help us test the game." I missed that one. You really think this is going to sell for $60 on release? You paid them to test their game, something traditionally done for free. You can sugarcoat it however you like, they got your money AND your alpha testing services. Since you were an ass about it too....here, have some kneepads for the next time it happens.

Still don't know the land well but did pretty well last time i played but it was daytime. Main problem for me is i will probably get bored of it quickly. I'm not the kind to go hunting down people and looks like its the only thing to do in there. I did amuse me when some unarmed guy came at me with his fists and i killed him with a fire extinquiser. Thanks for the tip.

A troll is someone trying to incite arguments for their own fun (or no particular good reason). This is what you're doing.

Here's a perfect example below, right from your mouth. It demonstrates that you are illiterate and probably shouldn't even be posting until you further your education. Particularly because people have corrected you on this dozens of times on the past, and it always seems slip your mind.

Show me where it said "50% off if you help us test the game." I missed that one.

There is absolutely no stipulation saying that you have to test their game. Anywhere. I never said there was, the Steam page doesn't say there is, and Rocket never said there is.. There is no agreement, anywhere, saying that you're forced to test anyone's game. You simply pre-order it and you get ~50% off. You're lying, making things up, and making arguments based off of it. That's trolling. I don't call everyone who disagrees with me a troll. I only call trolls "trolls". Learn to read and write properly and you'll do a better job of unintentional trolling. Unfortunately for us all it looks like you have a habit of making arguments up out of thin air with false information.

Rocket has already stated multiple times that the price is going to increase to anywhere from $50-$60 for retail.

If you're going to make an argument, try a little bit harder than "I think this game sucks because it's crowd-funded, and crowd-funding sucks because (insert lie here)". That's the very definition of trolling, moron. Just because you have an opinion, doesn't make it an informed opinion, nor does it automatically deserve to be heard or shared with anyone else. Put some thought into your opinions before sharing them, because obviously you have put zero thought into it. I won't call you out on your bullshit if you simply stop spouting bullshit, otherwise I have every right to call you out on it every time you open your mouth.

You have some serious issues man; what an ass. Was that literate enough for you?

Unfortunately, it's not - because you still miss the entire point. Your first post was responding to me with comments that are trolling. I didn't necessarily say that you said the game sucks - I was simply putting down the equivalency of your post - which was trashing the game based on your opinion, which is based on a lie that you make up and perpetuate.

Your opinion just so happens to also be a lie. That's what makes this trolling. You are saying you're being forced to alpha test a game by pre-ordering the game at a reduced price. You're not. You don't have to test a thing. You're simply preordering the game at a reduced price, testing is optional. Paid testers don't get to test at their own leisure - their job is actual work, and to confuse their work with what "Early Access" players do is downright stupid. You go around spouting this lie, "developers are forcing gamers to pay to alpha test their games, how awful of them, developers used to pay people to do that", repeatedly - and that's why your posts look like complete troll bait.

I don't care if you think I'm an ass - I'm not the one going around forums trying to start arguments based off misinformation or lies. If you don't want to argue, don't respond to my posts - I'm simply pointing the fallacies in your opinion. You have your right to an opinion - I have my right to say why your opinion is rooted in lies or misinformation. You keep trying to perpetuate it, despite being corrected regarding your misinformation in the past. It's obvious why this is considered trolling.

I really think you need to go back and reread my first post here and see how absolutely irrational you have been.

I already broke it down for you, twice. Need me to do it again? Your opinion is that you're tired of this crowdfunding trend, because developers are forcing gamers to test their games, and that they have to pay to test it. You say testers used to get paid to do this very same thing. Want to back any of this up with evidence? I'm pretty sure that not a single video game tester has ever been paid a dollar to play an incomplete game at his own leisure. Video game testers do absolutely nothing of the sort - what they do is actual work.

You're essentially complaining that people have the ability to buy their games at a reduced price for preordering it. There is no reason to complain. You haven't once, after all these posts, elaborated why it's worth complaining about being able to preorder a game at a reduced price. All you're capable of is circular arguments, where I have to repeat myself endlessly. Yet you think you're not trolling because....? You do realize this game couldn't have been made without this trend that you're growing tired of, right?

Derailing? Discussion about crowdfunding is totally pertinent to this thread - you just refuse to elaborate on your opinion and insist on repeating yourself and flinging insults. It's really not that hard to justify why you have an opinion on something. Why not just answer my simple questions? DayZ couldn't have been made without crowdfunding. Why is it that you think it's a bad idea? Just don't reply with "developers are forcing me to test their game for them", because we've already established that it isn't true.

I'm just asking for an elaboration dude. The first time I asked, you replied to me with lies and misinformation. How is that not trolling? Let's go back to your first elaboration

Show me where it said "50% off if you help us test the game." I missed that one. You really think this is going to sell for $60 on release? You paid them to test their game, something traditionally done for free. You can sugarcoat it however you like, they got your money AND your alpha testing services.

Why not just be honest? You say we're paying money to test a game and we're not saving any money on it. The truth is that nobody has to test the game. The fact is, people are merely pre-ordering the game for up to half off so they can save money. So, care to elaborate again?
