Would you kill a small bird for something you wanted? Let's say it's a new video game or something. If you killed the bird, you can get the (blank) for free, but if you choose not to, you cannot get the item forever.

I made this topic a while ago in the Wii boards and it was really interesting, so I thought I would bring it here.

Define "something". Does this "something" belong to the realm of material, superfluous goods?

Ok. I kill the bird and ask for 3 wishes, use one of the wishes to bring the bird to life.

I was hunting with my brother btw. He ate one. o.0

Well, for now, let's make it a material object. Can't be a person either.

Small birds have little meat and a lot of feathers and bones. A rat would be more nutritious.

The idea of eating a rat would negate the nutritious value for me.... give me a dove!

Yeah. But the bird can't be endangered, because it's no good if I get arrested or have to pay a big fine. And whatever I get for killing the bird has to be worth at least $100.

Of course. It's a damn bird. Survival of the fittest. I wouldn't take it personally if a Mammoth crushed me beneath it's feet if I was between it and something it wanted.

Of course you'd take it personally. You're taking 5 tons of Mammoth on your personal chest.

I wouldnt get it ever? That hardly seems fair. So I guess if I learned enough about the item in question to know that I really wanted it, then sure lets fry a bird.

I can't believe someone still remembers it :D. I don't think it was locked though... I forget exactly what it was about though, something about getting a game before the release date.

As someone who has eaten a rabbit raw during a schizophrenic episode, I will say that I have probably killed a fair amount of birds anyway, though I, for the most part, do not remember what occurs during my episodes.

Occasionally, there are small snippets (though I'm not sure that said snippets actually occurred), but I was followed once by someone I know during my (ahem) nighttime outing, and he told me about the rabbit incident. I can usually feel it coming on, so I can move myself to a relatively secluded location before I finally go under, but it's something that, quite frankly, frightens me very, very much.

Why don't you set up a camera around (or on you) to see what happens? How often does it happen?

It varies. Last semester, they happened about once or twice a week, but after break started, I didn't have one for over a month and a half. Last night was the first time I had had one in quite some time. They tend to occur when I am particularly stressed, depressed, or otherwise weak in the mind. To be honest, though, I do not want to know what I do during my episodes. I think it would further lower my opinion of myself, which could cause a feedback loop (through exacerbating the aforementioned depression and stress) that would raise their frequency significantly. The guy who followed me said I was, for all intents and purposes, a completely different person, and a feral one at that.

Wouldn't even hesitate. The bird would be blown to bits with my .270 or my 12 gauge -- I would then ask for, Hmm, I don't know ... this:

Sums up my thougts pretty well. Unless, of course, I needed something desperately, then yes, I would kill the bird.
