Why do people who think something is really awesome call it "sick"?

I think it's kinda of an over descriptor of what people call some certain thing that's really cool or awesome, and I want to know why people call that certain thing or music sick.

We've just implemented it into our vocabulary. I honestly don't remember when i learned it, it was probably from hearing it so much. It's just a part of society nowadays.

Good question, but one of the Gamespot Levels is called "wicked sick' ; #30 , methinx, so you'd better adapt or resign !
