I can understand worrying about are greatness due to our govertment and how they're **** over the American people, but I never grasped why it is that they are so infaturated with us as a people?

I mean, I don't go around spouting "DURR WHY DON'T BRITS CARE ABOUT THE DAILY MAIL OR TUTION INCREASES" or whatever is not being done in some 3rd world shithole, seeing as how I have my own life to wworry about.

I just wonder why it is they are so "concerned" about what we do on a regular  day basis, I think jealousy might be a factor.

The only thing I don't really get about the US is that it's a highly regarded first world country, but they are quite behind in the social issues department.
It just doesn't really match.

This is untrue. Many countries have good reason to hate the US for the influence they've had on their countries. It doesn't come spontaneously.

Because EU media report on whatever is happening in America. Celebrity trash from Honey Boo to Zimmerman. Kim K to Barack Obama. Hard not to form an opinion on something that's forced down your throat whenever a newspaper is bought or a TV is turned on.

That's funny because technically the Euro area and UK is still in a recession with negative growth rates. The US has had positive growth rates for a while now.

Pretty sure it has to do with our questionable foreign policies seeing as we are the military hegemon of the world.. That and a lot of entertainment, especially blockbuster movies comes from the United States.. The United States when it comes to film seems to dominate the sector with the highest budgets and the most well known movies.. Countries like India for instance are trying to mimic this with Bollywood.

it's also not really kicking.  And technically if you violated someone in the butt with your foot it would still be rape

America is a global superpower and when a country puts itself on the world stage so much it receives a lot of attention, both positive and negative.  It's as simple as that really.

To be honest, what you do, as individuals, hold little to no interest to anyone unless you ask about something specific. What the US government, Celebrities or various strange state laws that occur however is something we would probably have a opinion about and will participate in a discussion regarding such a matter so to voice our opinion and see what other people's opinions are. This isn't just restricted to the US, however since the majority here on this site is probably US Members then naturally the odds are that the topic in the Off-topic section will be about something either related to or in the US.

Its obvious, when we do things like poorly regulate our banks, they fail and it triggers a world wide recession that affects everyone.

Americans seem to care alot about what china does as well, for the same reasons... their actions have an effect on our economy.

Nothing to do with jealousy - I'd prefer Her Majesty's United Kingdom over the Monarchless' Disunited States of America any day. :P But anyway, as a proud British man, I obviously identify with the USA on a cultural and historical basis - we share the same goals, values, principles and so on. Plus, the USA is the king of the world - the most dominating power, so it's no surprise why everyone is interested in it. Plus, your constant stream of elections are very interesting to watch - your politics is far more polarised than ours, which is a good thing, as you have a clear choice, unlike Labour, Tories and Lib Dems which are very similar nowadays.

I can't speak for other people but I'm interested in the U.S. (more than my own country, even) because it's the world's richest and most powerful country and whenever America sneezes, all of Earth catches a cold. Also, the fact that the U.S. is the world's largest culture and media exporter makes it very easy for people from other countries to pay attention to you.
