I haven't been paying a lot of attention, since I have homework to do. Still, from what I've seen Romney is looking and sounding much better but Obama is making a lot more sense content-wise.

[QUOTE="Nonstop-Madness"]I think Romney just did a big oops with the whole "Creator" statement. cslayer211
Actually that's a big part of the constitution, that our rights aren't given to us by our government, but instead by our Creator, so they can't be taken away from us.

Declaration of independence. The Constitution doesn't mention a Creator.

Oh yeah, I meant to say the government. Nonetheless it's very important because it means that our government can't take those rights away from us.

Content isn't as important in these debates as getting out a message. It's an easy thing for political junkies (like myself) to forget.

[QUOTE="Abbeten"][QUOTE="Mafiree"][QUOTE="Abbeten"] Caused? Not really. Exacerbated? Yeah.

Overspending in the real estate market caused the bubble (because of easy access to credit). Which was the main driver of the crash. Consumer spending was too high pre-crash and although reduced is still very high as a percentage of GDP. We ultimately need polices to advocate saving, not consuming, to bring long-term growth.

While true, it's a little more nuanced than that, and consumer spending isn't low just in terms of spending on housing. It's low across the board, and recovery won't really happen until that changes.

Not really.... http://www.stlouisfed.org/publications/re/articles/?id=2201

Can't wait until fact checkers get on this. Boring debate and neither said anything new or substantial but Mittens had the energy so I guess he "won". Doesn't matter anyway once the foreign policy debate rolls around and Obama makes him look foolish.

I think this was a very good debate. Both had good points, both had bad points.

Obama good: He came across as very calm and very slick.

Obama bad: His answers were vague and nonsensical.

Romney good: He was a lot more specific with his points on his own policies. He cited more sources.

Romney bad: Holy s*** did he come across as aggressive and a bully.

Verdict:

Honestly, I have to give this one to Romney. I hate the guy, but in honesty, I didn't expect anything from this guy and he surprised me. That said, I think in terms of the debate, these guys are almost equal. I don't think this debate will change much in terms of polling. But Romney performed better than he did in the GOP debates.

I'm under the impression that, for better of for worse, Romney will win the election. I won't vote for him, but this is what I believe and it's what I predicted since the beginning.

I don't think Romney schooled Obama, however the liberal bloggers and CNN is pretty much in agreement that Obama was weak and rusty. Romney responded extremely well to the President and was very aggressive. Romney was better plain and simple.

I don't know. Both have atrocious policies. Obama is much more a war monger than Bush and I f***ing HATED Bush. the difference is Bush was more vocal about it. Romney might cite Obama's clear failures and win, but then again, Romney might tout his aggression and lose. I honestly don't know.

Political debates are never, ever about substance. Substance is inimical to politics, since politics is basically the opposite of philosophy. It's about connecting to voters and selling yourself. It's like when you go to a whorehouse and all the girls line up for you to choose between them, only less dignified.

Romney looked like an unrelatable douche bag. Somebody should have told him laughing at your opponent is not good form. Even though I felt Romney did better in the closing statement than Obama. Don't even want to know their talking points on immigration, bound to suck all the way around.

Better that than what happened in '04, when the debates were so moderated the candidates couldn't even talk to each other. Debates with lax moderation are often better, because the debaters are more likely to go off the cuff and actually have a discussion.

That isn't how you judge Presidential debates. Of course they're both lying and spinning and bullsh*tting, they're politicians, it's what they do. The question is who presented their lies in a nicer package? The answer is clearly Romney. Yeah, he wasn't specific at all, but being specific is a terrible move for politicians when they end up governing totally different than what they campaigned on (which happens basically every time).

Obama should have been much more aggressive. He was probably trying to make himself not appear like a douche to provide contrast to Romney's acting like a douche, but it just made him look incompetent. And I don't think Romney gave a single original idea the entire debate and lied about half of his own policies. But Romney looked like he knew what he was talking about more, so more voters will flock to him.

I think I agree with this one. Again, I'm not voting for Romney, but I think I really have to hand it to him in this debate. He simply performed better.
