I personally am not black myself, and don't entertain frequent company with them either; however, there is one trend that has been going on for a while implying that African Americans have an unnatural obsession for Kool-Aid.

Anybody know what's up with that? the fried chicken I can understand, but where does the Kool-Aid fad come from?

I have no intention for any of this to suggest racial, trolling, or insulting motives. Just a curious question is all.

It's an extremely cheap drink that is made in abundance. It's big in poor, inner-city homes thus a stereotype was born. The reality of course is everyone likes Kool Aid. :P

it comes from the fact that they buy a lot of kool aid. at the store i work at, a lot of the black people that go in there buy the kool aid jammers packs of sugar things. i don't blame them, kool aid tastes good.

Fried chicken itself is a popular food among most African-Americans, and it has been for a long time. Not specifically KFC.

It's a pretty well known stereotype. A few black friends I had would swear by Kool Aid, and the fried chicken stereotype has always been around.

Slaves used to grow and eat watermelon. It's a fruit that comes from Africa and used to be seen as an African food before being diffused to the rest of the world. It was the African Slaves that brought it to North America.

IIRC the watermelons and fried chicken stereotype originates from the slavery era, they were commonly available and food was one of the most desired things for a slave. But it may very well be a Southern stereotype that evolved into a black stereotype.

OK. Here it is: Chicken is cheaper than beef. So we had to eat it a lot once. Each generation it gets better though. I don't eat it. Well, I'm vegan. I don't eat any meat (which makes me a weirdo, but thats another story). Fresh fruit is not that cheap really. But a watermelon can feed a lot for a little. I remember once when I was a kid my grandmother cut the watermelon she had been growing all summer. That thing had to be 50 pounds. Fed all of Mississippi it seemed. Fruit juice is not cheap. But Kool Aid is. See the patter here? The foods that we ate a lot were cheaper than the alternatives. However, in all cases the current generation lessens the sterotype. Don't know the last time I saw anyone drink Kool Aid. I have'nt had a watermelon in years, but I eat blueberries every day. A chicken is no longer the cheapest meal. McDonald's dollar menu is. ;)

given the fact i worked at a grocery store for 3 and a half years it comes from the fact black people buy this and fried chicken like there is no tommorrow or hawaiin punch i suppose depends on the person. then again working there i learned alot of sterotypes are true a full rant would likely land me in the banned category.

Probably born out of poor neighborhoods where that was the cheapest drink. I personally don't like Kool-Aid.
