Yesterday I found a box full of comicbooks from my dad. I read 2 Spider-Man comics and I am really enjoying. I don't think they're childish or nerdish or anything.

Why do people say comics are for nerds? Do you think that? Or even better, do you think that they're for kids? Because those Spider-Man comics had violence and blood in it and well that's never for kids.

They're quite entertaining to read. I've recently gotten into a few and have enjoyed them. As to why people say that, who knows. I think they're for anybody who wants to sit down and enjoy a good read. When it comes to kids, it's like most things, there are some that are age appropriate and some that aren't.

I've gotten to chapter ~150 of Spiderman since I started reading it, found it very entertaining.

I also started reading Batman, but the amount of cheese the first chapters had and the terrible artsyle turned me off really badly. Will start reading it again when I have more time.

I very much enjoy comics. I think some people believe they are juvenile because for years and years that is who mainstream comics were targeted towards. But I think the medium has grown a lot since then. Today comics are as diverse as any other medium. I'm an immature nerd, though.

Love em.  I have my own pull box at my local comic shop.  Some comics can be bad or juvenile, although with modern comics, "juvenile" tends to mean more along the lines of gratuitous violence, swearing, and T&A, ie they appeal more to preteens and adolescents with more "mature" ::cough:: content (hmmm, what other medium does that...).

If you plan on getting into anything current, I can tell you that the current runs of Daredevil, by Mark Waid and Hawkeye, by Matt Fraction, are stellar.  Get the trades for those.  Yes, I know it's the less popular characters, but these books are the best books Marvel puts out right now, Daredevil won multiple Eisners last year, and Hawkeye is up for some this year.

If you're thinking of reading some current "Superior Spider-Man" be warned.  It's good, but a lot has happened to Spidey, and he's not himself, to say the least.

There's plenty of other amazing books out there, both current and collected in trade, go explore!

They are great reads. I personally like reading the comics that involve Thanos, definitely one of my favorite villains.

I enjoy them but, for me personally, there just isn't enough content in each episode to keep my interest. I'll finish a comic book in a few minutes, then I have to wait a month before I can get my next few minutes of content. I just don't think that formula holds up well today.

I usually wait until the they have all been released and then buy the bounded book that contains every issue. That way I can read straight through. I have no need to buy them individually right when they come out, if you are willing to wait that is a good option.

I bought one recently, but I couldn't get into it. When I was a kid I dropped comics for pokemon and then anime/manga and now I don't care for any of it. Stereotypical 'nerds' and kids do read comics though, so that would explain the perception.

I like them. You just have to go through all the crap to find the good stuff. There is alot of good stuff, but there is alot of bad stuff as well. Luckily, the bad stuff doesn't usually sell well and is cancelled, unless you are some big character like iron man or superman, your books can be as bad as anything and they wont get cancelled.

Never been able to get into them because I can read the whole thing in minutes. Hell, I can put down a 400 page novel in three hours, a comic book just isn't worth the money for the two minutes it takes to get through.

Yeah Ol' Jack reads a few trades now and then some of my favorite stories are from comics. I recently just read Severed and finished Y the Last Man both thoroughly engaging and would be equally as good as novels.

I use to like comic books, and I respect them to this day. When I was 8-13 I use to buy a lot of comic books, mainly GI: Joe. I'm kinda glad I have a comic book collection, even though it is not that well cared for. Off-course in my day we didn't have the fanciest of videogames and had to use are imagination.:) I was actually going to buy a GI: Joe a few months back to see how the series has progressed, but I was too lazy to go to the store.

I read them all the time. They are getting pretty expensive though ($3-5 an issue). Also comics are pretty hard to find, seeing as they don't sell them at convenience stores nor Target. I have to drive 14 miles just to get to the closest comic store.

It's that voice in your head that's slowing you down. You can learn to read without having to 'say' the words in your mind.

Edit: Here, try this.

my favourite hobby, atm.

comics are great because not only are they simply fun and able to spark my inner childhood, but they also offer intellectual commentary on the real world. i also love the balance between story and art, and there's nothing better than reading a comic where the two arts forms flow seamlessly.
