What was your first impression when you met everyone from OT?
mine was like i was coming home to the chaos and love! :p
This topic is locked from further discussion.
some of the first commentators i read was
foxhoundfox owning someone 1 on 1 exchange effortlessly
pianist lecturing 3-4 peeps in a thread on the science of music
brokenrabbit talking about the infinites of the known universe
chessmaster utilizing mathematical formulas to make a point
gabuex burning down the foundations of theology with a flaming bastardsword
all leaving me quite intimidated, and i lurked for quite a while, trying to size them up, before dipping my toes into the pool
i'm glad i did :D
@davillain-: OK now i want to know something: What did you think when you first saw me? xD
To be quite honest, I wasn't really sure. I saw you posted in the comments article when you had that original profile pic. You comment more and finally ask me all kinds of questions, I just reply cause for the hell of it. To me, your cool, I guess I'm just used to this kind of stuff that goes on in the comments article. Until you finally show up on the forums, then you became a problem. your everywhere in a kind of a good way.
@davillain-: Mostly because I really couldn't give a crap what systems other people like nor do I seek validation for my own preferences. Given those 2 points, discussing anything related to it would just be a non-enjoyable pain in the ass.

That's why I enjoy going over there just for the hell of it. I'm addicted to that place lol. The one thing in SW is to not take it seriously.

It was SW that taught me to use PSP to pick up chicks... You have to take the place seriously. :P

I thought, "What a bunch of cynical pricks. I have to be careful or else I might become one too."
Lately, it's been a lot better which is why I'm here more instead of say, at System Wars. It feels more civilized now.
It was a very cool place. Not every topic was interesting, but the parties were cool. There was links and postings of actual gaming events taking place in the SF city. Where i'm from anyhow, but there were other places too. There were so many postings of peeps party pages, with beer pictures, which we all posted out favorite party favors, and it was just loud, and cool. Then got to know some of the usual blogers, but rules were to tight, no room to breath. Glad GS updated and took care of most of those things. We have more freedom now then before. My first impression was i like it, very cool, and the place to be.
MDK54321 complaining about his dad's eating habit and his sister being annoying. And I got the impression that the whole OT just complains about their family problems.
But the FIFA thread changed my mind. Met so many cool folks here. :)
I honestly have no idea. I'm sure that the reason I joined was the chance to prove idiots wrong about........things. I now realize that I was the idiot. I now view this place as a community to discuss issues with and to learn from.
This place was FAR more rabidly liberal way back when I first started posting. I don't know if it has just mellowed out or my opinions have changed.
It seems like LJ is not taking offense to the (I hope) playful insults but it still doesn't sit well with the rules, so can we please try not to call anyone a male genitalia or other offensive terms?

I'm definitely not usually one to insult, if I do its also usually meant to be kidding around and have some fun (which I was trying to do with my last post in here) but I can see that didn't work. I'm sorry, I'll stop. :P
@Toph_Girl250: No worries Toph, I get it but not really looking forward to be called to the boss' office and asked why I'm letting people insult each other in a thread I was present in, you know? =P
it was back in 2006 when i made my first GS ID. everything seemed so fresh, funny and amusing to me. i still used dial up back then and i remember i'd get online only to read some GS comments and have a good laugh. that was how excited i'd been about this place. OT actually introduced me to a side of internet i was completely unaware of.
Honestly I didn't even know what the hell a forum was until I posted in unions back in 2009 then I visited the general forums, they were pretty much the same as unions in terms of posting.
So first impressions, well it was alright though I still remember being called a phony for not liking certain metal music and I did remember my first moderation that I received just weeks into posting on OT. I called someone a retard, then again to be fair, I wasn't the brightest back in my teen days. We all start off somewhere I suppose, at being some loser trying to fit in.
I'm actually glad I stumbled across forums though because honestly, I think they made me become a little more intellectual and I'm not just talking about these forums but other forums from other sites as well. My school district is one of the worst.
