As somebody who's suffering from it, I find sitting down to write a story with slow and mellow music helps. Gabrielle Aplin is a heavy recommendation.

I have terminal cancer (that I'm not going to talk about) and Crowbar is hands down my favorite band.

Sorry to hear about the Cancer, I was lucky to be a survivor as I caught it early (Stage 2). I wish you the best. Thanks for the video.

I actually listen to depressing music when I'm depressed. Helps me express the thoughts more and get them out of my system.

General thrash and instrumental guitar stuff like Loomis and Becker is my sort of comfort music.

Death metal like Nile, Suffocation, and Dismember played at a high volume when pissed off or feeling a bit down (kinda therapeutic really).

SUFFOCATION? Jesus christ. Actually I guess "Jesus Wept" would be a more appropriate comment.

My favourite compilation on youtube:

A mix of uplifting and melancholic music with a surreal vibe overall. I'm confident that you'll feel better after hearing it.

I like listening to cheesy upbeat songs.

Any 90s boy band has enough cheese to cheer you up. The lyrics are so unintentionally hilarious.

Do NOT listen to The Smiths. Trust me, that will not help if you are looking to not become any more depressed. I love their music, but man, I feel like I can only listen to it every once and again. Not daily.

Yeah I wouldn't listen to the Smiths for uplifting music for quite a while on account that Morrissey has cancer.

Normally you'd want to listen to music that reflects the disposition of your soul so you will seek equally depressing and sorrowful music. My advice to you however is to fight this urge and seek out music that will arouse the spirited part of your soul. I personally recommend military marches. That kind of music always manages to "mobilize" me and fills me with spiritedness and potent rigor.

No matter what though, do yourself a favor and don't try to listen to "happy" music so that you would be made happy by its own virtue. Not only doesn't that work, but its also overly simplistic and stupefying. Its impotency and incapacity to serve the end you're after will force you to wallow in your misery even more by virtue of amounting to yet another failure and desolate endeavor.

Let me just ask. Why are you going to listen to sad songs or emo songs if you want to be cheerful and forget about what you are getting depressed of? HAHA. Just asking guys. Haha.

If I'm actually sad, I don't think I listen to anything. If you're sad, how can you enjoy it....

Obviously all that screamo music to fit the occasion.

Seriously though, I don't really listen to anything. I just watch some entertaining videos or play a game that's not going to make me want to punch the screen if I feel like I'm in the least bit depressed.
