The Tomb by H.P. Lovecraft, the first story I read by him. I was enthralled.

Also As I lay Dying by William Faulkner.

Patriot Games, by Tom Clancy. I'm halfway through it at the moment, and the gunfight at the start really set it off with a bang.

I usually don't get that feeling until half-way through the book.

OMG Lamb was a great book! I didn't care too much for his other books though.

House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. Just seeing the format of the pages only made the story more compelling.

"This Thing of Darkness", a fictionalised account of the voyage of the Beagle but with much more of a focus on Captain Fitzroy. The book is quite epic in scope, so don't be put off by the length. It's incredibly well researched and spans Fitzroy's life from his appointment to the Beagle to his suicide. I can't remember the name of the author though.

"The Number of the Beast" by Robert A. Heinlein.

"He's a Mad Scientist and I'm His Beautiful Daughter", was the first line, and it grabbed me for some reason, and it didn't let go. Great book.

A Game of Thrones by George R.R Martin. Still one of the best fantasy books ever written and the first in the greatest book series ever written. Rowling is nothing compared to Martin.

Same here. I had no idea what the book was about, and from the first page his narration just kind of sucked me in.
