The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho is a good book. But very popular, so many will already have read it

Not a huge fan of mouse. Hesitant about Bone. Never heard of Chris Ware. The problem is we don't know how much OT has read, so it's difficult to recommend stuff because we don't know if they've read the basics. Here are 3 I think would be good: Promethea All Star Superman We3

No, that's why I'm hesitant. I have heard good things about it, but it's not really a comic book in the traditional sense that something like Watchmen is.

Does that really matter? Building Stories isn't either. We shouldn't be afraid to just try things without knowing if we will like them. Otherwise we will just limit ourselves and miss out on stuff we might enjoy.

This is true. Also I am the one chooser for each poll, and will pick 1 of the options. President's right. If you think it would not make things too power heavy, I could let you and Kong pick a poll option as well, leaving the other 2 to popular vote. And I agree about the one volume thing, so that means Promethea is out, unless you guys wanna buy the 150 dollar super fancy edition coming out this year (I am). My nomination is All Star Superman.

[QUOTE="dave123321"]Idea: You pick one of the options in all future polls. Each time there will be a 2nd person that selects something of their choosing and also selects three from stuff that is brought up. Quite a number of stuff will be brought up, so trying to come to a majority consensus is just too unwieldy. The main chooser each time will make the three picks pretty much on there own from stuff that has the support of at least a few of the people. When people bring stuff up for nomination, we should say rather or not we would have an interest in reading that. The main goal of showing interest would be just that, an interest in reading it.

Discussion shouldn't be geared toward crafting a nom list, that would be the job of the chooser(making sure there is support from at least a few people for the three poll options). Discussion should just be geared toward generating a list of stuff we would be interested in reading.

This is reasonable. You and KK and myself will rotate between being that "second user" who picks the rest of the noms. It will be your job next round, for the comics, as you are higher ranked than KK. Make sure you pick something that is in print, and under 20-25 dollars on amazon, please.

I am trying to get Bruce to move to a less concentrated process. You can be in charge of the comics round if you want. Your job would be to select a comic of your choice, then three from stuff that the club will bring up(making sure that at least few people showed interest in them). Bruce selects a fifth option. Then he makes the five choice poll for the comic we will read

Will you select the other three, air? There was some discussion of comics earlier to get an idea of what to pick. Maybe the thread will pick up again to bring more possible choices.

Then why are there positions and committees? You labeled this "OT Book Club". That doesn't put you in charge since OT belongs to all of us. What you've done is facillitate the desire for a book club, despite your single-minded quest for attention from the rest of us.

Dave, no. Thief of Thieves is not a valid option. Stop being like this, man.  Also, what's wrong with We3 and V?

[QUOTE="Mithrandir50"][QUOTE="dave123321"]Theives of thieves is the fourth choiceairshocker

It actually looks very good, but we can't do ongoings. If we can, then seriously look into Saga man. Game of Thrones meets Star Wars. Basically gets 10/10 reviews on every site. Anyways, I don't think we should do ongoing series'. Can't ask people to spend that much.

So just read the first issue. If people want to do issue #2 as the next suggestion, then you can do that.

We are doing collected editions only. That's the thing. If we got vol 1, and vol 2 comes out pretty soon, but anyways, if we got both, we'd have an incomplete story. Comics is actually a passion of mine and I would love to discuss them with you. Hopefully we can turn around this thread.

I got bogged down by 20pph.

Air, I will always have 1 slot on the poll for a book of my choosing.   A staff member of my choosing (dave or KK), depending on the round, will also have 1 slot for a personal preference, and they will also select the other 3 nominees based on support and interest in the thread by other users.

And then we vote.

And Dave, no, most certainly not, air will not be involved with the polls or be given any position of power in this book club.  He has proven himself nothing other than a spiteful old man.  Even when irrelevant, he will come into my threads, which have a great discussion, and bash me.  I have no interest in allowing him to select nominations.

I have faith in you, and kk when the time comes, to do that.

Bruce, Dave is already expanding his Vice Presidential powers. As I said before, you need to be careful in dealing with him. I like Dave, but he is dangerous. I recommend us both giving each other special positions within each other's clubs in order to keep Dave from having too much leverage in both at the same time.

I have no room for expansion. And unfortunately, it seems that neither of us are as interested in the other's clubs to mandate a special position. Perhaps if you show more interest in this club I will give you a position, but as for the film club, count me out. I enjoy film, but a film club doesn't really work with me the same way a book club does. Give it to someone who wants it, Lai.

I have chosen Building Stories as my nomination. Let it be known that it is $32ish. I feel that the club can decide if it is willing to extend that much through the voting process. Maus is also one of the other three choices.

The main reason for a different chooser is to not have it be just based on a concentration of power. The chooser would have great influence over the choices despite many of them coming from the club in general. Simply rotating it among three people isn't really something I agree with.

IDEALLY, each nomination round would have a chooser who can choose one of the five nominees. Then they pick the other four from suggestions and the discussions of them. And the choosers would be any club member. And further they would have the chance to pick the theme if they wanted to.

You're being quite stupid in regard to this thread. Put sh*t up for a vote, and be done with it. It doesn't need to be complicated. The suggestion with the greatest amount of votes wins.

There are positions and committees so people can take over if I'm absent, have specific recruiting responsibilities, and having the responsibility of picking 3 nominations for the poll based on what the people of the thread have expressed. You are correct. This is a book club for OT members. And I am the president and founder. I have no desire to talk to you any further.

TYRANNY!

You really are an idiot.

What you should do, if you wanted to be smart about it, would be to come up with a list of suggestions, edit the OP to include them, narrow it down to five choices, and create a new poll.

Instead you want to make it into a clusterfvck.

[QUOTE="dave123321"]Anyway. Five choices for comic round 1. Building Stories by Chris Ware 2. Maus by Art Spegalman 3. Bruce's pick 4. 5. People talk about comics again

My pick is All Star Superman by Grant Morrison My recommendations are We3 by Grant and V for Vendetta by Alan Moore. Most have probably read V though.
