It's one thing to disagree with his humor...But making personal insults and death threats to not just him but his family as well..is plain out sad. Some gamers just need to chill

The gaming "community" is really hell-bent on proving that it's the dumbest thing in the world.

But maybe it's actually all about ethics in TV comedy or something.

Wow. How utterly embarassing, for the gaming community. I thought that Jimmy's joke was flawed and lame but the responses from some of those people are just ignorant and disgusting. Those people are a blight to the gaming community and make it look ridiculous.

But come on the joke was good and correct.

And the response was just horrible and its crazy that they will stand as a part of the gaming community. those responses make us all look 100 times worse.

I watch gameplay videos quite a bit, and I thought Jimmy's video was spot on. Then again, I play more than I watch and I don't watch videos with commentary so you could say I'm not a hardcore watcher.

@LostProphetFLCL: because they can't play. Because they enjoy competition.

Because its a performance meant to be watched.

Gaming is something anybody can do. Watching someone play a game for hours is just plain dumb when you can play yourself and experience it first hand.

Lets play videos are great to an extent. Playing 1 mission or so for the purpose of showing off the game to users unsure about getting the game. That serves a purpose. But to watch other play as entertainment is just lame.

Why can't they play? Are you implying that all sport fans are handicapped?

While I agree that competitive gaming is lame, so is professional sports. You're just watching someone do something you can do yourself.

If all people could perform at a professional level you'd have a point maybe. But they can't.

Watching sports doesn't usually consist of just watching someone. You a watching a team that you are rooting for compete.

Not every one can play sports.

The same logic applies to competitive gaming. My actions per minute in Starcraft 2 average at around 20, a professional is expected to have over 200. When watching competitive gaming you also root for a team.

The vast majority of people can play sports. Again you can say the same for gaming, not everyone can play games.

@toast_burner: except the large majority of people watching games aren't watching competitive gaming, they are watching regular Joe's.

You don't see a large majority of sport fans watching regular Joe's play football all day. They are watching highly skilled minority compete.

I can understand watching gaming competition, because it's a competition. There a a purpose to watching that. But that is a very small portion of game watching craze.

Well they aren't regular Joe's, they're entertainers. People watch them for what they have to say, not because they like watching them play a game.

If you were to stream yourself just casually playing a game, nobody would watch it.

@toast_burner: you can go on twitch right now and see that that is false. You can find steamers with 1000+ viewers doing nothing but playing a game and replying to some questions. They aren't entertainers.

They are average Joe's.

Can you give any examples? From what I see the ones that actually get views fit into two categories; people with skill, or people who are entertaining.

Correct. I guess we have some game watchers in this thread though. And his comparisons are apples and oranges.

I disagree here. Most are average joes who happen to be lucky enough to get kids to watch them. So go watch Manvsgame, Cohhcarnage, llirk, dansgaming because they are definitely not entertainers or have skills.

But then again i am also a bit older than the target audience for let's plays and twitch streamers or a screaming swedish muppet.

Like when I post trailers here, I like seeing OT's reaction and opinion

A good let's play provides that as you get familiar with that particular person

And it's a more immediate and visceral thing

he's an entertainer, of course he's going to make fun of stuff.

on the flip side, they're youtube comments, of course they're going to be hate-filled.

You are quite dim if you think that everyone can play at a pro-gaming level.

Also, sometimes there are those who just enjoy seeing peoples reactions to different games. I have never been a fan of Pewdepie, but watching normal people play horror games can be damn hilarious sometimes, especially when you have already played through said game and know where the major scares are.

@LostProphetFLCL: you are quite dim for somehow interpreting me as saying that.

"Pro" gaming is a very small portion of videos being watched. Its complete opposite with sports where pro gaming is the main focus and the amateur level are basically irrelevant.
