America has become more authoritarian and moved closer to a police state (it's not either but it certainly moved that direction). Honestly I would say the terrorists got more than they could have imagined out of their little attack. The western world is certainly lesser now than what it could have been if 9/11 had never happened and the blame is actually on how overly reactionary we all were.

As far as if things have changed, I'd have to say yes. In some ways no as people are still angry at the U.S., but now we are both safer and less free. It would be infinitely harder to highjack a plane or train and we are safer at least in perception. However, due to things like the Patriot Act, we are in a downward spiral of giving up freedoms and soon things like DNA databases and thumb scans will be necessary to buy things, withdraw money, etc. All in the name of """"safety.""""
Racism towards Muslims is also up and now the economies of the world are having issues in many countries. I don't really think about it all the time as it's just depressing. At least we got Bin Laden though.

funny thing about this...my sister accidentally had a box cutter in her suitcase and when we arrived to dominican republic from new york no one knew it was there..thank god she didnt get caught...
