I saw it once and thought it was OK. I only had two problems with it: Jonathan Kent came across as much less endearing than past iterations of the character, but I guess Kal-el's Krypton father filled that role in this film and the action DID go on relentlessly for far too long in the second half. Don't get me wrong, the action was amazing the first time they began fighting, but it got really repetitive at a point. I'll still own the movie on Blu-ray when it releases though and I look forward to the sequel.
P.S. Superman gets way too much undeserved hate because people don't take the time to learn about the character. There is so much more to him than people allow themselves to know.
I've seen it 3 freakin' times already. Yes i know i'm crazy and something is wrong with me and i don't have a life. I'm tempted to go for #4. And side question, what did you think of the movie?djvj_y2k

once. was really disappointed by it. had some nice scenes and performances, but it just felt empty to me--not like superman at all
twice and i loved it. i think people who say they are disapointed is because its a zack snyder film but if it was nolan directing everyone would be dick riding it since people tend to think hes the only director in hollywood that can make a great movie

It's quite a bit like it's source material. I'm a huge Superman fan and I loved this movie. Yes they changed some stuff, but they kept the important stuff the same. Are you one of those people that think nothing should ever change? Superman has changed a lot since 1938 and he's going to continue to change. If you don't know that then you don't know much about the "source material." As long as the core principles remain then they're free to experiment.Â
I've only seen the movie once but I'm dieing to see it again. I'll wait until it comes to blu-ray though.Â

Why would you want the movie to be exactly like the comics? That's like complaining Superman isn't insanely powerful in Justice League - if he was the show would be boring.Except TDKR was terribletwice and i loved it. i think people who say they are disapointed is because its a zack snyder film but if it was nolan directing everyone would be dick riding it since people tend to think hes the only director in hollywood that can make a great movie

Oh are you one of the people I've dispatched and you're still hurt or are you someone who's never had the courage to discuss anything with me?
I'm sorry but I have no idea who you are

And if you have a movie where the character is Superman in name only that's the worst.

I'm discussing spoilers but I don't think anyone who's concerned about that should be reading this thread. But I used the tag anyway...
His feelings of isolation where he feels disconnected from both his Earth heritage and his Kryptonian: This has been a core principle of Superman for a long time and has lead critics to compare him to immigrants growing up in the US. The dual heritage is a crucial piece of Superman lore and it was represented very well in the movie.
His struggle to maintain his morality and his strong stance against killing: I suspect this will be expanded even further in this next film. Yes, he kills Zod at the end but his emotional reaction and hesitation makes all the difference. In Superman 2 (which is really popular for some reason) Superman kills Zod unnecessarily and without hesitation. The Man of Steel got it right. He was forced to and you can tell it killed him on the inside to do it.Â
Superman is depicted as a hope and inspiration: Critics have frequently depicted Superman as an analogy for Jesus as well. All of the elements in his back story that have lead to this remain in this movie. The dialogue is a little less obvious about it than the Reeve movie was, but it is still strong. I would argue the fact that the humans offer him as a sacrifice makes it even stronger. And he remains a beacon of hope and something to aspire to.Â
I can write a very lengthy paper on this subject since this is something I'm very passionate about but I'll end it there. The important things are all there. I'll admit that his dual identity was not present for most of the movie but it was established at the end and will be expanded on in the sequel. If it was completely removed from the continuity then I would be upset as well. If you think something core is missing then tell me what it is.
Yeah that's true. I admit to being one of those people who just found him boring without knowing much about him. But my brother is very passionate about the series, and he insisted I give it an honest try. I now think Smallville is one of my favorite shows ever, and Superman in general is very interesting.
This movie? Awesome. I have seen it once and I will certainly watch it more in the future when it is released on DVD.
Zero times. Superman doesn't interest me at all. He's the most boring superhero I know of.

I will just say, I am not a Superman fan but I REALLY liked the movie. They actually managed to make his character interesting and they were smart enough to have villains who could actually compete with Superman this time around!
