sex is an innate right, so why is prostitution illegal?

prostitution should be 100 percent legal. my morals and the way i live my life should not influence what people want to do with their bodies. and since prostitution thrives in a recession, maybe the US would be better off legalizing it. we need to keep dangerous prostitution off the streets by making it legal. what are your thoughts on prostitution, should it be legal? would you be a prostitute if you were stuck in a rut?
#2 Posted by xXCombatWombat (1528 posts) -

I don't see why it isn't legal to begin with.

The only real problems with it is things like health issues (which can be avoided), human trafficking, etc.
#4 Posted by JML897 (33120 posts) -
I do not know why prostitution is illegal.

if it were legal and taxed then only the best prostitutes would thrive, that's how the free market works.

no consent, you know this, why do i have to spell it out for you!?
#9 Posted by Orayus (525 posts) -
Yeah, lets legalize human trafficking
#10 Posted by TopTierHustler (3961 posts) -

It's really creepy for starters, and the only people who would take advantage of it would be weirdos.

So no to weirdos.

#11 Posted by xXCombatWombat (1528 posts) -

Why is porn legal and not prostitution?

Brah sex is a gift from god made to be used in the context of marriage. Prostitution is a different story and a total mockery of the design of God straight from evil

Wrong, in countries where it is legal, this is still a problem.

tell me, what's the difference between paying a prostitute to have sex and paying for drinks to score a one night stand? :P

#16 Posted by lo_Pine (5048 posts) -

I don't know why its illeagal either. It should be legalized and taxed and of course regulated.

Sexual interest in you vs. having sex with you for your money.

I think you put up a very good argument. I say legalize everything that doesn't infringe on anyone else's rights (not wearing your seatbelt, doing drugs, soliciting your body for prostitution, etc) Don't get me wrong, I'm against some of those things, but I think the best way to fix them isn't by making them illegal, but by offering some kind of free rehabilitation program or something of that nature.

One man's weird is another man's normal. You can't base laws on something so subjective. You need an objective test.

It's legal in Nevada.

Separation of Church and State? (I'm being facetious, but my point is we shouldn't base our laws off of something that a fraction of the population believes)

I hope this because legal just so congress can institute a tramp stamp program.

Sex is not an innate right, but prostitution should be legal for the basic reason that criminalizing it causes more harm than good.

#27 Posted by markop2003 (29917 posts) -
Technically it is legal here though I think running a brothel and pimping are illegal so it's strictly off the books call ins only. They really should make it a regular legal profession like any other, I guess we've just got to wait for Ann Widecome and her ilk to die...

Other than the fact that its hard to tax, I truly feel that some politicians and private citizens are so demonic that they actually like to see some people suffer. And a man with no sex life is definitely suffering. Some guys have a hard time getting a girl regardless of how good they are. And low income guys really have a hard time getting a girl. Prostitution is what gives every guy a fair chance of having a woman

Sex is not an innate right? Would you care to explain what you mean by that? How is it not an innate right?

Just another law that needs fixing.

If prostitution was legal we'd just be a much more sexual nation. People would have sex younger and more often and by the time they met someone they really loved they'd be extremely experienced; you know... I'm not really seeing a downside here.

It is not an "innate" right. I've never heard of such a claim. It's not a right like life, property, food, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, etc.

whipassmt

It's not exactly an innate right, but it could be considered an innate biological need.

Not true. People live celibately and don't die. It's not like food or water.

#42 Posted by BygByron3 (5571 posts) -

It is legal in progressive countries. In the United States one of the two political parties is heavily founded in Christianity and has issues with sex being for anything other than procreation in a healthy family structure.

Yeah, lets legalize human trafficking Orayus

Actually if prostitution was legal and regulated, human trafficking would go down significantly.

I guess the reason why it's illegal is because no one wants to see their daughter perform sexual acts for various men and vice versa. I mean, lets face it: Even if you're for legalizing of prostitution, you would not want to see your daughter go through that. Call it sexism but it's a fact.

I don't think prostitution should be legal but I don't think it should be a high priority for police. In fact, I'm indifferent on the issue but if given a choice, I'd rather keep it illegal. Illegal prostituion isn't a major problem here so it's basically a non-issue.

#47 Posted by bobaban (10553 posts) -
Why would prostitution thrive in a recession? Less people would have money to pay for sex.

Kind of.

They both had sex, but the girl is still selling her body rather than learning a real skill or working at a real job, and the guy isn't learning proper "courtship" or the right way to hit on and pick up a girl.
