WTF, the only superhero that could NEVER be replaced is Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr. IS Iron Man, IS Tony Stark, this is just sad sad news. :cry:Robert Downey Jr. Abandons AVENGERS 2, Marvel Names Replacement

Its time to raise a clenched fist above your head, channel your inner Darth Vader, and scream a very trite NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! into the air

Robert Downey Jr., that glorious thespian whos synonymous with drunken, armored romps on the big screen, has abandoned The Avengers 2 and the role of Tony Stark. While we still havent heard the official word on the matter, I have no doubt this was initiated by money. Weve known for some time that Marvel is tight with their purse, axing Terrence Howard after that actor refused to accept a decrease in salary. Since Downey Jr. already commands such a high paycheck ($50 million for The Avengers after everything was accounted), and he had just reached the end of his initial contract following the completion of Iron Man 3, the old dog may have wanted too much money.

And as if that news wasnt hard enough to bear, the House of Ideas has already leaked the name of their replacement. Again, nothings been 100% confirmed yet (even though I think this Tweet counts as 100% confirmed), as Im sure exec.Kevin Feige and crew are hammering out an extensive contract to ensure another Downey Jr. style fiasco doesnt happen again, but it looks like Mad Mens Jon Hamm will be the new billionaire/playboy/philanthropist.

Pardon me diehard fanboys as I say this choice isnt actually THAT bad, but Hamm doesnt possess the necessary mixture of playful sass and silver fox charm that made Downey such a catch.

Heres the official tweet from Marvel, which only delivers a minimum amount of information, but you may want to see it.

What do you guys think on the matter? I love me some RDJ, but even I have to admit, Hamm is a brilliant replacement. Make sure you check out our Source link below, too.

It was bound to happen eventually. I don't know how long people expected Downey to keep doing these movies.

If it' s not a joke, I' ll be disappointed. I have nothing against the replacement but... Tony Stark is Robern Downey Jr!

Yeah...Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, none of the Hollywood trades has picked up on this "story" yet, but a no-name website has the inside scoop.

This is a not even a piss-poor April Fool's Day joke--just a cheap ploy to bring a few hits to a crappy website.

Please.  :P  You gotta have SOME degree of believability for a good April Fool's Day prank. That's just too far fetched to be even a bad prank.  Besides, April fools Day is tecnhically over.  Not only is it bad, it's late.

Downey is an ass. Accept the role for the role's sake, not because you want an ass-ton of money. There is a fine line between acceptable levels of greed upon superior, unmatchable performance, and greed for greed's sake. Give the new guy a chance I say. He could actually take the opportunity seriously and bring something new and clever to the table.

That's almost as obvious as the news story that said RDJ was being replaced by Nicolas Cage in Iron Man 4.

April Fools? Well if Hamm was the replacement they'll have to redesign the Ironman suit specially in the groin area. The first Avengers wasn't that good anyways. I'm more interested in the Justice League.

I think Jon Hamm would be an excellent replacement if this turns out to be true...he could easily pull off the charm and humor required by this role.

I would be pretty upset if Downey wasn't Iron Man. It wouldn't be right, he's perfect for the role.

No way he gives up that character anyhow...
