Haha, I came into the thread specifically to recommend that movie :) It is terrific. Another Gordon-Levitt flick that isn't well known is 'Mysterious Skin' and I definitely recommend it. It doesn't shy away from a pretty complex topic. Along with Gosling they are two of the best upcoming actors in my opinion.

Paprika; it is japanimotion. That may take off the interest, but believe me. That is one of the best movies I have ever seen. EVER!! there is also a mexican film called "Matando Cabos". If you can find it, I am sure you will like it. Two AAA movies granted.

I was kinda disappointed with Paprika. It wasn't terrible, but the trailer made it look incredible. I got it at this anime shop for $5 though, so I think it was worth that.

[QUOTE="super_mario_128"]Taxi Driver. Well, it's very well known, but see it anyway! :P Also, try A Clockwork Orange.

duuude i HATED taxi driver! one of the worst movies ive seen dude. the plot was uninteresting and imo it was a waste to use deniro as the lead role.

I guess I'll go with "Punishment Park (1971) as a good film that probably nobody here has watched.

Come on, the movie is overall good next to great, and has several scenes that will make you want to clap in the middle of the movie. For example the "The end" Gun + chick scene is awesome!

I would say it's good, but not great.

Werckmeister Harmonies by Bela Tarr. It's definitely not for everybody though, but it does have some of the best shots you will ever see in a film.

I loved it the first time I saw it (just recently). But I agree with what your saying, It really seems like a film that gets better with repeated viewings, I wasn't so surprised that I liked it but rather surprised to find myself completly drawn into everything going on onscreen. I know I can't pretend to totally understand the film after on eviewing but I don't think I need another one to tell this is a masterpiece and a fantastic meditation on life. I cannot wait to see it again and it's probably my second favorite film of the decade. So thanks for always talking about it that definatly got me to just bite the bullet and pick it up.

The film is pretty meditative. I think one of my favorite things about it are the luminous lights in some of the scenes (especially when NJ takes a trip to Japan). Too bad Edward Yang died a couple of years ago because he was a very promising talent in modern cinema. What is also unfortunate is the fact that none of his other films are distributed in the U.S. and even those copies are extremely hard to find. There is a low quality version of A Brighter Summer Day on Google video, which I hear is supposed to be his best film, but I haven't gotten around to watching it because watching a four hour film on the computer can be taxing to the eyes. I'm just hoping that Criterion gets around to distributing more of his films. The word about this filmmaker needs to be spread.

Well, I really liked "Felon". It's pretty good, I gave it a 8/10.

And also watch "Taken", I gave that a 8.5/10

Wow I didn't even know... this is the icing on the cake for a terrible day. The thought of a man with so much talent just no longer being is so sad. However I did check on google and they seem to have a Brighter Summer Day and it looks pretty decent quality.

And unfortunatly there are ALOT of great filmmakers who go completly unnoticed.

Audition had me pinned to my seat lol.

The Brotherhood of the Wolf or Le Pacte des Loups is a really good film that co-stars Vincent Cassel and Monica Bellucci. That reminds me, I should see the this again.
