Looking for good flicks that aren't mainstream.
I'll start out with the Game. Produced in 1997 it stars Michael Douglas. Its an intelligent thriller with a great ending but I don't think many people have seen it.

Some good ones that may have flown under your radar:
Dead Man
The Big Lebowski
Memento
11:14
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (famous but maybe not for the younger crowd)
Apocalypse Now (same as above)
Clerks/Mallrats
Instinct
Reservior Dogs
Once Upon A Time In America
Before the Devil Knows Your Dead
Bulworth
Good Will Hunting
Run Lola Run
The Professional
Young Guns/Young Guns 2 (I'm not sure if these are popular)
Anything by David Lynch
American Teen. Look Both Ways. Kenny. Little Fish. biggest_loserThey're all Australian and they're all bad. A good movie = City of God.

One flew over the cuckoos nest is completely lame compaired to the novel and clerks is insanely well known and widely popular Yes, the novel is better (and in fact one of my favorite novels) but the movie is pretty damn good and adequate for those who aren't fans of the written word as you and I are. I always thought that Clerks was popular to but I have met many people around my age (early 20's) who haven't seen it so I figured people even younger than me may not have seen it. Care to add anything of your own or are you just going to bash my selections?[QUOTE="biggest_loser"]American Teen. Look Both Ways. Kenny. What does it matter if they are Australian?

People generally already mentioned what I would have and I just have a personal vendetta against the Cuckoo's nest movie because it would have been so easy to keep it to the true word of Kesey but so much senseless and pointless things were changed and character personalities overlooked that I just can't bare to recommend people to watch it unless they've read the book.
and I can understand a lot of younger people not having seen clerks, I find it's more a mature comedy(the first one anyways) I think it's comic gold with just the right amount of social commentary by I've had a friend basically fall asleep during it..the second was obviously more main streem ready but I do think the average person has to be at least 16 to enjoy clerks 1, but would enjoy clerks 2 at a younger age specifically because it contains more modern comedy tactics while retaining that underlying feeling that you always get from Kevin Smith. But in general, it's a film that is extremely well known and probably wouldn't pop up on a list of great movies that aren't well known.
Not intending to bash, I just like discussing choices...It's definitely a movie I'd recommend to anyone who hasn't seen it but it's not something I'd put on a list of not well known movies. I do agree with practically your entire list, it was just those two I felt the need to comment on. Cuckoo's nest to defend Kesey's written word mainly and I saw clerks and thought I'd mention that it's extremely popular...around here at least...it sells insanely well at the store I work at.

Thanks for the well thought out response. I totally agree with you about Clerks. It is one of the funniest movies of all times but it is fairly offbeat in it's humor and presentation which is part of what lead me to believe that it wasn't very well known. I thought Clerks 2 was a descent modern comedy but that it (as you sort of said) conformed to too many popular comedy conventions for my taste.

Agreed, I still really enjoyed it, I honestly really enjoyed the back and forth star wars vs LOTR, and randall VS Elias through the film, but overall it was designed to appeal more to the masses. Sorry if I came off as rude... Wasn't my intention, I really did enjoy your list :PThanks for the well thought out response. I totally agree with you about Clerks. Das Leben der Anderen (German / english title: The Lives of Others)
Basquiat
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
Monstertorsdag (Norwegian / english title: Monster Thursday)
Slumdog Millionaire - limited release right now, but is going to end up huge. It's the best film of 2008.
Dog Soldiers
And theres this old cheesey one called Screamers about robots.
Its corny, but its a good movie.
Se7en is a great film but nobody I know seems to have heard of it.The_One_White
Ditto, which I find extreamly odd since it has brad pit and morgan freeman in it.
