This. Any time I hear news about morality, religion, law, etc from the Middle East, I always look to see if it's from The Onion.

I would argue - putting aside the mere merit of allowing someone with a vagina to drive an automobile - that forcing an absolute artificial seperation of the sexes causes more incidences of homosexuality to occur then not. Ask any Saudi man or woman who went to Saudi high school... >_>

remember a couple of years ago when the first municipal elections were held, some debates were done, they had gotten done with the questions early and had some free time, the more moderate candidate wanted to open up the topic of women driving, the conservative candidate completely shut up and wouldn't even engage in the talk.

I know that the issue of women driving a car seems so incredibly simple and inoffensive to the West that to have it still be de-facto illegal (it technically is not illegal for a woman to drive, they're just not ever gonna get around to giving you a license) looks incredibly ridiculous.

For me, it really boils down - after all the excuses about uniqueness of culture, protection of women, such and so forth. it just boils down to controlling women, on a very very basic fundamental level - the ability to move.
