I mean no offense to any christian out there.

There is famine in the world, destruction violence.

I know the old saying

"God created free will."

But all it would take for God is one snap, and he could END violence.

He could stop that guy from stabbing that man in the throat, create a force field or something between them.

It'd kind of be like death note.

"The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully." - Richard Dawkins

Man: I've commited 7 crimes, stolen from a church, burned down an orphanage, and cheated on 6 women. Can I go to heaven?

God: Sure! Just ask for forgivenence in a 15 second prayer before you sleep tonight

Child: I was born in a third world country in a tribe that has never even heard of God

God: nOPE! Off to hell you go!

Why would God want everything to be perfect? He wants there to be good and bad, isn't that the point of us existing?

"One must state it plainly. Religion comes from the period of human prehistory where nobody-not even the mighty Democritus who concluded that all matter was made from atoms-had the smallest idea what was going on. It comes from the bawling and fearful infancy of our species, and is a babyish attempt to meet our inescapable demand for knowledge (as well as for comfort, reassurance and other infantile needs). Today the least educated of my children knows much more about the natural order than any of the founders of religion, and one would like to think-though the connection is not a fully demonstrable one-that this is why they seem so uninterested in sending fellow humans to hell."

So he'd rather have massive destruction, unspeakable evil, and some of the most disgusting things ever thought of done. Instead of allowing us to keep free will, but just end crime period...

It wouldn't be a perfect world.

But it'd be a NICER place to live in.

The world's fastest growing religion was formed during the 19th-20th centuries. That pretty much invalidates the whole quote.

Sometimes I wonder if these threads are just made to bait Christians and Atheists into huge arguments. To answer the OP's question, if you look at it that way, you could say that. You could also say that if God took our free will away and had absolute control over our actions we would probably complain about being puppets instead.

The idea that "Someone," had to have created everything stems waaay back to the days of early man.

This concept gets passed down throughout history.

It just takes different forms

I'm not talking about getting rid of free will completely. I'm just saying, God could become Batman and just intervene with crimes. Like the movie Minority report.

This is the impression I've had for quite some time. Its how I justify my beliefs. "If God is real, he's a d!ck". I have a hard time believing in a God when people are born into these terrible conditions, and I'm so fortunate that I'm not. I am the 1%, and I certainly don't have the pride to give that up.

One thing you need to realize about any religion that is thousands of years old (not just Christianity) is that after all of that time, years of being passed by word of mouth before being put on paper, and multiple translations there will be some confusion and deviation from the original product. For all we know the Bible could be five percent the original text and 95% added on by people with an agenda. With that, nobody can say why God does what he does assuming there even is a God. One thing is for sure, you won't get a good answer here in OT with the vast majority of posters being Atheists. You want real answers seek religious clergy.

Well one of the main religions believes that this world and humans were just created as a sort of test. If you do good in this world then you have proven yourself to go to heaven, and if you have done bad then you go to hell. God created free will for humans for this purpose. Natural disasters are just ways in which God is testing humanity and what people do and so on.

How so? The quote said that religion was created in a time of ignorance. You said it was invalid because the fastest growing religion was created many centuries after that period. And I merely said that that does not change the fact that people get the idea of religion from that time of ignorance. Which is what the quote was talking about.
