At least according to this poll. Which doesn't really surprise me to be honest. More people are happy when they are richer, because they have less things to worry about.

They really needed to conduct a poll to figure this out?!

What's next, 'People breathe easier when oxygen is in the air'?

@speedfreak48t5p: Well I like to see you make a topic, go ahead make one, I'll be glad to click on it. The_Last_Ride brings in some good topics from time to time and better then AmazonAngry.

Meh, don't really care for creating topics. I'm just the guy who trolls in them. :P

Money doesn't equal happiness, but it sure as hell contributes to it. Those people who claim money was no bearing on happiness are not living in the real world.

His topics are not bad (except for that Steam topic), but a little moderation would be nice.

I feel much more secure knowing my finances are in good shape. So I would tend to agree with the OP.

Yeah, if I was to become a millionaire, I do see myself generally being happier than I am now. But with that said, I wouldn't be happy all the time, just more often.

Well they poll a lot of stuff, and the result isn't that surprising

I have found that my happiness does correlate somewhat with my income and bank account status.

With some more money in the bank I can indulge, indulgence which improves my mood temporarily. The secret to happiness is working out what makes you happy and pursuing it until it is achieved.

Whilst having money scratches that little itch that tells you "you need that". Its certainly no solution to long term happiness.

I think money can bring happiness but for many it doesn't. My sister in the past 3 years has made quite a lot of money she is on her way to becoming a millionaire. However she has also developed depression and has quite a bit of anxiety attacks in the same time period.

She was much happier prior to her obtaining her wealth.

Money should equal more happiness... if you don't have to make huge sacrifices to earn (more of) it.

Having money to spare makes me less worrisome about the bills. That gives me more time to devote on classes and leisure stuff such as gaming.I get to take leisure trips abroad every now and then. I get to see what it's like abroad and makes me appreciate more what I have at home.

Money contributes to happiness that is a no brainer but it does not equal happiness. And even my opening statement that money contributes to happiness is a matter of relativity and is a little bit more intricate than a directly proportional relationship between the two. What I'm trying to say here is that its not the case that the more money you have the more it contributes to happiness. It doesn't go this way, at least from where I'm standing. Money's ability to contribute to one's happiness depreciates exponentially as the volume of one's affluence exceeds his means of subsistence and overall maintenance of his life. Bear in mind that the term "means of subsistence" is itself relative to the standards of living surrounding the individual. In fact I might argue that money's effect on happiness past one's means of subsistence starts to go in the opposite direction. It ceases to be conducive to happiness and an overall advantageous and desirable mode of existence. Instead, it starts to be conducive to indolence, intemperance, avarice, greed, anxiety, meanness, wickedness, loss of virtue and emotional, intellectual and spiritual disabilities. An abundance in material means enslaves its possessor, condemning him to a life of perpetual restlessness and stunted higher faculties.

If money could buy you good health and extend your lifespan to say 150 years I would agree with this.

As someone who has been living cheque-to-cheque for the past few years, I can tell you I would be much happier if I had a nicely padded savings account and could afford more luxuries.

Sure money is happiness, but only up to a point. Once you get to a certain level, all else is just superfluous.

Money wont be an issue in the future because we will have cyborgs working for us such as farming, repairing, cooking, shop for groceries, turning everything into a public service. That time will come in the far future enough to live comfortably as the jetson. We got smartphone and one day smartbots. Its coming as we all know it.

Not to mention if we can get many threads that are at least half decent, traffic will pick up a little. On topic, I also believe money equals happiness. If I won four or five million dollars, I would be pretty damn happy considering that would set me for life so long as I lived within my means and didn't blow it on stupid bullshit.
