Miami Police Choke Teenager for giving 'dehumanizing stares'

"An African-American teenager is accusing Miami police of brutality after being pushed to the ground and placed in a chokehold. Fourteen-year-old Tremaine McMillian was carrying his young puppy when a Miami-Dade police officer confronted him. Police say Tremaine appeared to be a threat because he gave the officer "dehumanizing stares." The officer pushed McMillian to the ground and held him there in a chokehold. Speaking to CBS Miami, Miami-Dade Police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta tried to justify the incident by saying even though he tried to walk away, McMillian was accosted because his "body language" amounted to a threat."

I understand the need for cops to act preemptively on rare occasions (and I mean rare), but to act because someone looks at you funny?

The cops need to be suspended immediately, and taken to court.

I dont hate cops, theyre provide a necessary and unfortunate service

But most I have met are dicks.  I don't know if it is simply because of their training (they do need to be firm and abrasive at times), because their authoritative figures, or if their power gives them an arrogant swagger, but most cops I've met are dicks.

Professionally, and personally.  Maybe the job attracts a certain type of person. I dont know.

And this is coming from a guy who has generally been on the right side of the law during my interactions lol.

Yup.

They'll walk all over you if you let them, and when you stand up for your rights you've 'got something to hide'.

Even if there's a few 'good' cops out there, they are still participating.

Hell, my friend and I were involved in an auto accident a few years back (another car slid on a wet road and hit us because they were going too fast) and my friend was taken to a hospital. I was sore as hell but didn't need a hospital, and this dick-ass pig comes up and says "If you don't pick your friends stuff up out of the road we're going to have a problem here." (It was all the stuff from the trunk.)

FYI: I didn't pick up shit.

Do we really need a thread every time a cop abuses his power? There are millions of cops across north america, of course there are going to be dicks. Acting like every cop is a member of the SS because of a few bad apples is, to put it bluntly, idiotic. I would like to see people report on all the times civilians vebally and physically abuse police officers. Of course no one would want to here about that though.

This just another example which shows that the police force in this country needs to be reformed or at the least more tightly regulated.
