So Google just released a new video titled "How It Feels [through Glass]". It's a video from the perspective of people wearing Glass. Apparently it's 100% real and they even have working prototypes.

You can find the video here. (be prepared to be amazed)

So OT, are you ready for a HUD?

watching that video makes me feel like im not doing anything exciting with my life

I look silly in glasses..Also smart phones are distracting enough I couldn't imagine trying to have a conversation with someone wearing this.

I don't think you're supposed to just be wearing these around town. Either way, this seems like tech that I doubt goes very far. Most people don't want to wear glasses at all. Much less with a bunch of shlt flashing on them.

I think these would be more handy for bikers.

Why would anyone want that on a regular basis? I'm not a machine. I don't want numbers and information scrolling everywhere I look and I can't imagine many people would.

That just looks like it'd give me a headache.

Looks dumb as ****, my life is no where near that exciting and I'm not gonna wear glasses everywhere. I'll stick to my camera phone kthxbai

I can't wait for this and the self-driving car they have to come out.

Personally I think it's brilliant. It would be especially good in a place like Venice, where it is so easy to get lost; plus it'd be awesome if it gave you information on famous landmarks along the way. For travellers/tourists this is perfect.
#19 Posted by Boston_Boyy (3913 posts) -

Even if it works as well as the video makes it look I don't ever see it as becoming more than a toy you'd put on from time to time.  I just couldn't imagine wearing ridiculous-looking glasses voluntarily or saying "okay glass..." outloud would ever be socially acceptable.  Maybe people did say similar things about cellphones 15 years ago, but those have become necessities, this will never be that.  In the future with some technical advancements I believe living daily life with a HUD may work, but these are just too clunky and socially unacceptable.

Well since I already wear glasses if they could install some kind of prescription glass in them; I would get them.

throw in a pick pocket spotting app and we're good

Ugh, good Christ no. Distracting and probably headache inducing with no real practical use.

#24 Posted by Blazerdt47 (5661 posts) -

I'll take 2. I've been following Google Glass for a while now. I love the concept and I'm definitely going to grab a pair when they are consumer ready. :D

#25 Posted by Blazerdt47 (5661 posts) -

Also, when these are out for consumers, expect a ton of amazing Youtube uploads through glass.

#26 Posted by rocinante_ (1666 posts) -

that's cool i guess--but don't smartphones already do all that stuff? and with smartphones you don't have to adress it like it's a living thing.

seriously, saying "ok glass, ____" is fvckin weird.

You won't have to take your phone out of your pocket. Seconds will be saved.

Especially with pictures and videos. Imagine all those times when people say "Fvck I wish I had my camera for this". Or missed a shot because of seconds.

Unless you wear this Google Glass thing with you everywhere you'd still have moments where you'd say "f*ck I wish I had my camera for this".

I mean, come on. Who is going to wear this thing wherever they go?

Exactly. I don't think it's meant for regular wearing (at least I hope not). It's for people doing sports, filming their kids, etc. I think.

i'll hold out for the version w/ built in thermal imagining or something. get me some predator vision in that thing and i'm in.

What's this twee f*cking indie music that apparently has to be played in every video about smart phones, tablets, laptops, and now this.

So you want a bunch of information scrolling at all times with video and whatnot? Besides the obvious headache it would probably give with wearing it regularly, I'd imagine you'd be running into walls, crashing your car, etc. Not to mention it looks stupid as all hell.

ok buddy.

1: you don't have to have it running 24/7

2: your eyes adjust

3: not everyone gets headache due to everything like you

4: if you cant multitask you shouldn't be using it in the first place

5: you activate what you want when you want,

6: the little monitor inside don't take up your entire eyesight so walking in walls is pretty stupid thing to say...
