Tough call on that one. Freedom of speech vs. disturbing the peace.

if he was disruptive, they obviously had a right to remove him, and if he resisted . . . well, it's not like a taser is lethal . . . usually.

You gotta respect tazers. ANything that can make some guy trying to sound tough say "OW Ow!" like a wuss is pretty endearing.

On closer examination of the video, I think the kid was purposely over-dramatizing the taser jolt. No, I've never been tasered, but he was playing the crowd the whole time up to that point, and he managed to keep yelling after he was tasered. It couldn't have been that bad.

That's what I was thinking. He was trying to get attention. The rest of the article said that he regularly makes videos of him doing "funny" things.

He's an attention whore.

Apparently he has a web site where he posts prank videos he made. Like one where he is along the side of a road holding a sign with a spoiler about the Harry Potter ending before the book release. Karma. Also, he asked his question and he should have respected the format of letting other people have their turn too. What about their freedom to speak? He didnt consider that did he?

So if I repeatedly tape my own practical jokes and go "out of line" when speaking to someone we've given authority (American voters, I guess), it qualifies me for a tasering?

Whatever dude, I'd uppercut that cop and plead self defense. The dude asked some questions that many people want answered and if the viewer of the vid watched as he asked the impeachment and Skull & Bones things, they could be led by the U.S.'s laws to a conclusion that he wasn't doing anything that would be reason for two cops to grab both arms and try to restrain him.

What the hell man. Not cool.

I watched the full video somewhere else. And while I agree in the end he kinda deserved it, the police were a bit too "grabby". Right after they shut the mic off, the police immediatly grabbed him without asking him to leave first.

Well, aside from him being disruptive and fighting the cops for attempting to enforce the law (always a bad idea), anyone who uses the word "bro" definitely deserves a tasering in my mind, anyway.

In terms of not letting other to speak because of his conduct, then yes. If he can claim the cops violated his right to speak by cutting him off from the mic, than he violated the others right to speak by not sharing it.

She could have just asked him to leave first...I don't understand why they had to physically attempt to remove him right off the bat. Prior to that, he really did not do anything but say stupid things.

Believe me, I don't have that much sympathy for this guy, and I don't think the cops did a terrible thing either. I think it could have been handled n a much more professional manner is all. The cop should not have grabbed him like that.

"In terms of not letting other to speak because of his conduct, then yes. If he can claim the cops violated his right to speak by cutting him off from the mic, than he violated the others right to speak by not sharing it. "

Something tells me you don't understand what free speech means in America...

dnuggs40

I understand it very well actually. And in this case, the guy has no grounds to claim the cops violated his freedom of speech.

I never said he did, just refuting your claim that this guy violated other people's free speech...

Well if he is going to claim the cops violated his right to speak by removing him from the mic, then isnt the speaker doing the same to other audience members by not allowing them to speak because he doesnt want to yeild the mic?

No, and thats why I said you don't seem to understand how free spreech works...

Thats why I'm saying its BS if he claims freedom of speech infringement. Where is the violation? So, its violating his freedom of speech Because cops drag him away from the mic after he was asked to yield? But its not when he was taking away others right to speak because he was hogging the mic?

If you are going to be so condescending please elaborate on why i don't "understand" freedom of speech.

There is a big something wrong with this. First, the moment the kid gets off the mic the cops grab him as if they are going to arrest him. They have no justification for violating his personal space and he has every right to demand what justification give them the right to escort him off the premisis, let alone arrest him. How are cops justified to bully the public just cause they ask an unpopular question or go a bit over their alotted time. Anyone who has every watched a presidential debate knows that they always go over their limit, I don't see the cops rushing onto the stage to warn the nominees not to obstruct their opponents freedom of speech.

Since when does being a cop mean you are justified to use your force and pain inducing tools to obstruct individuals from demanding questions of our representatives in the government. Then again, it seems that most people love the idea of public figures squelching opposition to the establishment's agenda. This can happen in this country and we have the audacity to flout our ideals of "freedom" that we don't even practice to the rest of the world. No wonder we can't seem to initiate a democracy in Iraq.

Help! Help ME!

Not a smart idea to resist a bunch of cops. All he had to do was walk outside.

newhenpal

That was the only problem I saw with what the cops did...they never actually gave him an opportunity to walk outside. As soon as the mic was cut, the female cop grabbed his arm.

The women grabs his arm to lead him out, he starts talking very loud. He walks the other way with his hands in the air. They just want to take him outside. The black officer walks over and grabs his arm, trying to lead him to the door. The young man is yelling at this point. He fights the officers all the way to the back of the room. You're saying he had no chance to listen, and walk outside? Once they try to arrest him, he cursing and fights the officers. Why? Who knows. He gets tasered, and then stops resisting. Taser worked.

Well, prior to this he had pulled other pranks and he was known to record them, would you have any patience for an attention whore with nothing better to do?

Did the police know he was a prankster? And is there anything wrong with being a prankster anyways? When she grabbed his arm, was she armed with this knowledge? Probably not...IMO she was a little too physical right off the bat. It certainly could have been handled better.
