I over heard my Mom talking about my cousins baby being Christened today, my thought was, "How do they know the baby wants to be Christian?". I for one am against Infant Baptism. In the Baha'i Faith there is Independent Investigation of Truth, which is basically the child itself, researching and deciding on a religion, if any, to be. I was Baptized Catholic, I had no idea about other beliefs until I was in my mid twenties. I think we should educate our children about different beliefs and have them decide for themselves. What are your thoughts on Infant Baptism?

The foundation of the beliefs of one religion is often built within the mind of an individual in order to prevent easily swaying to other religions or a cult.

At then end of the day it doesnt actually mean anything (baptism). i was baptized Catholic AND Baptist when I was 12. I am an Atheist. What matters is what you said later, TC. Its important to expose your children to multiple views and let them decide. Now, the reason that infant baptism exists in the Church is pretty despicable, however times have changed.

its only saying your parents want you to be. anything that was done to you in your infant years doesnt have affect you later in life unless you choose to let it affect you/follow it.

Never got why some churches do it, it's not a biblical practice and a baby can't make a conscious decision to become a Christian or know what the water baptism is supposed to symbolize

Infant baptism is nothing more than sprinkling water on your head. It's useless without faith. The whole practice started because of the high mortality rate back then.

The whole point of Christianity, as in most religions, is the assumption that that religion is right and all others are wrong, so best to just assume the child wants to be Christian, since it is the only right one. I'm more against forcing the child to believe in something through enforcement of fear than I am with making the parents happy.

The only thing your parents can legally do to you as an infant that will affect you much later in life is circumcise you.

I know plenty of people who are atheists that were baptized as a child and one church I visited a few years ago mentioned that baptism means nothing; if you don't live the life of the faith you belong to you're only getting wet.

I have two kids, neither are baptized. They can decide for themselves what they want to believe and I will support their choice regardless. As a parent I am here to teach my kids to be self reliant, to be successful and be decent human beings with morals, values and principles. They can decide if they want to follow a set religion or not. I believe in God, and I believe we have free will for a reason.

My wife is Catholic and I'm not religious. We discussed this and decided that our son should be baptized and raised Catholic, but also told of other religions so that ultimately, he can decide his fiath direction when he's older.

infant baptism i think is just a way to dedicate the baby to God, it does not mean the child will be forced to believe it.

If God is real, it helps ensure salvation. If he is not, than the only consequence is a wet head. I see no downside to it. It's not like being Baptised demands you to live a certain way.

Here is the prayer they should have said at the batism

The Lord's Prayer
The moment you receive it, say:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven,
give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil,
for Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory,
now and forever
Amen... GOD WANTED ME TO TELL YOU, it shall be well with you this coming year. No matter how much your enemies try this year, they will not succeed.
You have been destined to make it and you shall surely achieve all your goals this year.
For the remainder of 2013, all your agonies will be diverted and victory and prosperity will be incoming in abundance. Today, God has confirmed the end of your sufferings sorrows and pain because HE that sits on the throne has remembered you. He has taken away the hardships and given you JOY. He will never let you down.
I knocked at heaven's door this morning, God asked me, My child! What can I do for you?
And I said,

'Father, please protect and bless the person reading this message. '

It has never been broken. Within 48 hours send to family and friends, as many as you can ? God does know if you don't have 20 people to send it to.
It's the effort and intent that counts. This is a powerful Prayer. Couldn't hurt can only help...
Let's pray for one another, theres no superstition involved here, we are just asking for Gods will to be done here on earth.

GOD BLESS YOU!

God is going to fix two BIG things tonight in your favor. If you believe in God, drop everything and pass it on.

Tomorrow will be the best day ever.

Yep we should stick a child in a room with no human interaction or influence at all until their 18 and they can make proper decisions for themselves. Give me a break, as the child's parent you are going to make decisions for that child for years. Being baptized and raise Christian is only one of those decisions you make for the child. They can always decide to leave the church or join another religion later in life.

It is simply a ritual used to ease the minds of superstitious parents. In the realm of reality, infant baptism does absolutely nothing, and as such, there is no reason to be upset about it.

If you dont baptise your child a warlock can use thier fat to make flying potion.......... But seriously its just a silly little ritual that effects nothing. As an atheist if I had a child I would never try to get them baptised, but if the mother wanted it I would have no issue with it either its not a big deal.
