For a Christmas get-to-gether with my uncle and aunt and my parents, My uncle gave me a set of expensive looking in-ear headphones. I am fine with the standard iPod ones, and I still prefer them, too. It was a Sony set, with an expansion cord. It came with three sizes. The medium ones kept falling out, the big ones, I havnt tried, but I hope I can just rest them on my ear and not in them, and the small ones go in fine. (Thats what she said!) Anyhoo, I (disgustingly) generate a lot of earwax, and it is not too pretty when I take them out. Now, I know that you can clean em, but I was wondering, which ones do you guys like better?

i got a set of the Shure headphones, i think they normally retail for 150 bucks and i must say their awesome. the normal ipod headphones suck if ur an audiophile and the shure's are just great! i will never go back to anything other than shure's now..

o and also, if you have some medium sized foam ones, what you do is squeeze them and make them smaller and put them in your ear and then let them expand. this generates a seal and gives you higher quality sound! try it sometime if yours came with foam ones.

oh that sucks.. well if you really want some good headphones, you could return those and get a set of shure's. i think the base shure set is 100 bucks and if you listen to alot of music, its deff worth it.

I prefer the huge ear-banger headphones. I have a $50 pair that I use for everything: Listening to music (you get more rich sound, and can hear things that you wouldn't otherwise) Playing games (directional audio ftw!) and practicing on my bass without bothering my parents.

Earphones >>>>>>>> headphones.

I got Bose Triports with my new 80gb video ipod last year. best damn earphones ever.

Thing is, they were not cheap ($100), but you really do get what you pay for. they are great if you like listening to loud music because theyre noise-cancelling too.

The regular Ipod Headphones are fine. Im just glad to have a pair that work right now. I went through about 10 pairs of headphones in the last year and it was starting to piss me off. In-ear ones are cool, i usually find the bass is alot more prominant on in-ear, also the sound on regular ones becomes tinny after awhile.

I have a set of in-ear Sonys - they're decent enough for the price. You can get better, but you have to extend your budget a fair bit and really, we're still talking portable headphones. I can't justify spending over $100 for something that can easily get lost or stolen or damaged.

There are only two big probems with canalphones - they have to seal properly or you won't get any bass, and they pick up any disturbance along the cord. Since everyone's ears are different you may even have to a different size pad for each ear.

I like them because of their size and natural ability to block outside noise.

I also find they fit better if I don't clean my ears as often, since earwax helps seal the rubber. ;)

LOL SONY EARPHONES/HEADPHONES ARE THE WORST POS EVER. And btw, your earphones prolli costed just $50. Their top of the line headphones cost only $250. I'm a huge audiophile myself and I'm not really a big fan of earphones or canal earphones but I do have a pair of UE's which set me back $150, two pairs of headphones, one from Grado (Got a $80 which exerts great sound for its price) and my baby, Sennheiser PXC450 which REALLY pwns anything Bose will ever put out. $400 of pure brilliance for those PXC450s. Anyways, you probably have a different taste in sound than I do and well I hope your happy with what you got.

I would hope that $400 headphones sound better than $25 canalphones. ;)

In-Ear earphones hurt, but for me they are easier to sleep on and they block out noise easier. I sometimes fear they will damage my ears though after prolonged use.

That's probably because they don't fit you, they need to create a seal or else they will sound flat, they should be sounding better than your default iPod ones.

Standard. Nothin can beat my huge ass DJ headphones. I've used them for as long as I can remember and they've never done me wrong. Plus I don't like being skull ****** every time I listen to music. It's really uncomfortable.

They might look a little old school but I love my DJ style Noise Cancelling Sony's. Those earbud things are just annoying to me. I don't feel I get the full sound. I like it crankin!

When it comes to sound quality standard headphones win out, but in-ear headphones do have some advantages. One main reason I use in-ear headphones is that they travel really well. I can keep em in my jacket no problem, and they don't mess up my hair any. This is why I tend to use in-ear headphones a lot when I'm on the go.

I like studio headphones more, and they don't cost really that much if you shop in the right places. The problem is taking them anywhere is a pain unless you happen to be using them.

In ear headphones all the way. Especially Sennheiser CX300's. The prices are suprisingly low for them on Amazon.

Generally speaking you're going to get much better sound quality from headphones than a comparatively priced set of in-ear earbuds, the earbud's drivers are smaller and therefore not able to produce the same level of bass. Also you generally need to spend at least $200-300 to get a quality set of in-ear earbuds (meaning they can produce a good bass level), whereas a good set of headphones will run you just over $100. You're earbuds probably sound off because you don't have them in properly, you really need to jam them in to get the proper tone.

Either way ditch the ipod earbuds and invest in something good (Seinheisser, AKG and Shure are good brand names to look for), you'll be glad you did.

For future reference,

In-ear Headphones = Ear Bud Headphones.

Headphones = Headphones.
