Would you rather be in a urban or rural environment ? And yes there would be varied issues for each environment if you think about it. So.....?

Well I would rather be a hermit, but I guess I couldn't because then I'd own a home?

Urban. At least thsi way, I have "increased and better" experiences. In a way, I have a weird morbid interest about being homeless for a while.

Rural as possible. Then you can just squat in an abandoned barn for as long as you want.

On the other hand rural allows you to perpetually "camp" thus eliminating being a vagrant.

Urban, that way you have better access to free public bathrooms, free food samples or cheap food, lots of hostels you can pay really cheap for a night, lots of public pools for free shower access.

I'd live on the beach, watch sunsets, and then ponder on subjcts such as why we are here, and then I'd find the answer and not tell anyone cause would listen to a homeless bum?

Some people in New York beg for money and recieve around seventeen thousand a year and live in their own place. Urban begging would not be as challenging or dangerous as living in a rural environment, but both are equally unlikable to me, so there no lesser choice to me.

urban

never seen a homeless shelter in the boonies.  or much traffic.  or dumpsters.  or hospitality, for that matter.

I suppose if your survival skills were good, and by rural you mean wilderness, it might be better...but no, urban for me.

Urban. You can wander around and beg for money during the day. Might not make a lot but would at least earn enough for a meal.

Urban.  I would find a homeless shelter (if there are any, I know there are some in my small town).  I would then walk around trying to find work.  If/when i do find work I would immediately buy a decent pair of clothes and shampoo, get decent enough to walk into a store for a store job, and ask for an application to every business in the city.  I would continue living in the homeless shelter until i could afford to build my own portable unit similar to this at 17:20: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1tV-ovGPyc

At that point its just a matter of saving money to get a bigger house and vehicle.  It would be alot more difficult than described, but I think if someone worked hard at it they could go about rising out of homelessness in a similar way.

City people overestimate how much 'good' food they throw away, it'd definitely be easier to live in urban places.

I would rather be in a rural environment, in an urban environment you have the chance of getting mugged or robbed of your belongings. Plus you can forage trees for berries in the woods.

I would live out in the country in the woods, but not super far from the city. I would grow my own food and hunt.I would focus on buying a bicycle, tent, and sleeping bag before anything else. The bike would allow me to travel to the city everyday to beg for money. I would save until I had enough to rent a place for a year and then look for a job and go from there.

Good post. You are the only one so far that gave a reason that dealt with working to NOT BE HOMELESS in the future.

I agree. Urban probably presents the most opportunities to find work, which leads to not being homeless any more.

The appalachian trail would be an ideal spot if I become homeless. The people on the trail are friendly and its beautiful. Might even find a nice little country town to settle in and stop being homeless.

If I was "homeless" I would try and live in nature like permanent camping.  Probably visiting a town every once in awhile.  So it would be like DayZ without zombies :P.

well that is part of the argument. For further clarification this stems from an argument between me and my brother, him picking urban me rural. One of my reasons being camping, fishing, and other survial skills that are useless in the city, which I also feel is more dangerous.

The only real pros i see in the city are that you have a better chance of getting handouts, stealing things (though morally not ok), and seeking shelter (even if illegal).  But you also subject yourself to a lot of redicule and much worse.  I think not being a laze about bum and instead living in the wild and doing things is a better route.

There's so many fruit trees and edible plants where I live plus a bunch of wild turkeys, deer, and other animals. I'd go with the rural area. I can live like Survivorman for a while although I don't think I'll have his propensity for living on the extreme.

Unless you've already been taught these skills( most have not), it will be very hard to learn them especially with limited resources that a homeless person faces. Your best chance of survival is urban.

Rural country. Once a summer some friends and I actually try to live a week in the woods with just a tent, guns, and fishing poles and stuff. It's pretty fun. I imagine long term not so much, but fishing sounds better than digging in a dumpster.

Urban. More opportunities to get back on your feet and maybe get a job. You're not planning on becoming homeless soon, are you, Matty? :p
