First of all, I do not want to be banned. I want to relay a conversation I had last night and get some opinions on the topic at hand.

Last night I was talking to a couple of neighbors about what makes a transgender person change sex. No one agreed that if a person has a penis and prefers to have sex with women they are not a woman...even if they identify themselves as one. I'm honestly confused about the topic. If you have a penis and consider yourself a woman does other people? Doesn't that go against the definition of a female and biology? What do you think GS? Does someone with a penis and identify themselves as a woman actually make them a woman? When does the PC stop?

I've always thought once everything is done with the survey and such, that's when you are now classified as the gender you want to be. If a man wants to be a woman and is during the process of changing and still has his male parts, I still classify that as male.

Not always true since they can be a woman trapped in a man's body. So they still classify themselves as the other gender before surgery sometimes.

In their mind, they'll be a woman but God and his immediate family will know he's a man for life.

It's whatever they identify themselves as regardless of if they have a penis or not.

Pretty much this. A person is transgendered if their gender identity differs from their genetically assigned sex. Whether or not they choose to have surgery to try to change their biological sex (or how far along that process may be) is not relevant.

It's simple, if you are born with a penis you're a male. While being born with a vagina makes you a female. I know logic is hard to follow these days, but there it is.

I sexually identify as an Apache attack helicopter, but that don't make it true.

Right. It can get a bit confusing (to me at least), and I think there are terms like pre-op or post-op for people considering, or who have gone through, surgery.

But yeah, they're whatever they want.

A transgender women who is a lesbian is a person that was declared male upon birth (their "sex" is male, i.e. XY chromosomes), but wants to be the female gender but still likes women.

I'll admit that sometimes I get a little frustrated with the whole thing and I think people are making a big fuss (on both sides) about nothing, and that to resolve the whole thing we should just label bathrooms as XX or XY and have done with it (because no matter what, you can't change your chromosomes....right?), but ultimately I don't care, and the freedom to choose is more important than someone's bathroom insecurities lol.

And have you seen some of these transgender people!? Their transformations are pretty incredible, you really can't tell the difference (except maybe when they talk, but hormones and/or voice lessons can fix that).

For the life of me, I'm just utterly incapable of wrapping my head around the modern definition of "gender" (and I really have tried).

We're biologically no different from other animals. All this "born in the wrong body" stuff, it's just whatever we tell ourselves (and that's ok).

I have no hate whatsoever and I really couldn't care what someone considers themselves as. But it would of course be unreasonable to expect people to 100% agree that such a person is of a different sex.

The term you're looking for is transsexual. Apparently transgender is more of an ambiguous term that don't conform to either gender roles.

I think having a penis is a useful tool, even for a transsexual. Why would anyone want to cut off such an awesome tool that makes it easier to pee when you stand?

I have the same opinion as Donald Trump. He said transexuals are welcome to use the bathroom they want to in the Trump Tower. I don't know if they are technically female but more power to them if that's how they want to live.

I don't equate sex and gender to be the same thing, gender is performative. Legally speaking one's sex is change after they have their reproductive organs removed but IMO I think needing to remove what gives you sexual gratification is simply barbaric. Besides, it's not like genetically you've been made one sex or the other.

Depends where the penis is.

If it's on them, in the usual place. Then they are still a man and would be a transsexual a bit like Eddie Izzard. If it's in a jar then they there sexual identity is the least of there worries.

Just be kind to people. Take me for example. There was a line at the urinal and I let all the ladies use it and waited patiently. Is that so hard?

Depends on who you're talking to. Older trans people tend to prefer transsexual, but younger trans people overwhelmingly prefer transgender or just trans.

@OP: As a trans woman myself (male to female), I fully accept I was born male and that nothing will ever change that. However, I look like an average woman, I sound like an average woman, I think like an average woman, and I even have similar hormone compositions when compared to an average woman. Obviously this is intentional, but the large portion of society sees me in public and either ignores me or refers to me as a woman. I don't think being pre-op should change that.

Oh, and one thing to keep in mind is someone's reasons for being pre-op. For me, I'm pre-op at the moment because it's really costly, there are long waiting lists (if you going to a reputable surgeon), and the healing process takes so long that someone will have to take off about 2 months of work immediately after the surgery. Combine that with the fact that I'm a recent college graduate and it's no wonder that I don't have the resources to have reassignment surgery yet.

That is because young people tend to forget the real meaning or not look up what it actual means.

We can hopefully agree that sex and gender are not the same thing, so being Transgender means that you identify either as male or female gender but does not need to go all the way or go beyond simple outwards being the other Gender. Transexuals on the other hand will almost always go all the way with HRT and SRS because they identify as the male or female sex. Also most Transexuels will usually stop referring to themselves in that manner once the transition is done, they will then simply be either male or female.

There are also sub categories under transgender, CD, Drag. etc.

Oh, so you are one of those super people who can look at someone and see what their chromosomes are?

Also do you know there are actual fully developed women who have male chromosomes? and men that have female?

So it doesn't really matter what they were born as.

@Jacanuk: no I never claimed I can.

By definition if you have a Y-chromosome you're male, if not you are female.

It matters to whether you meet the definition of male or female.

Sorry, that is not true.

Yes most men have XY and most females have XX. But science have shown that there are males with an extra X and females with an extra y. These people have a chromosome defect but at the same time never discover it because they never experience any visble clues to this.

Meaning that a female can look and be female and even give birth but have that extra chromosome and there are men who look and are men but have female chromosomes. So why should we limit ourselves and not call someone who works hard and goes through what they do, either male or female? just because they were born with no defect.

So no it does not matter if you meet some outdated def. Or do you really walk up to someone and ask "hey can you please tell me what your chromosomes are?" so i can adresse you with the "right" pronoun.

"Most mammals, including humans, are genetically determined as such by the XY sex-determination system where males have an XY (as opposed to XX) sex chromosome. It is also possible in a variety of species, including human beings, to be XXY or have other intersex/hermaphroditic qualities, though one would still be considered genotypically (if not necessarily phenotypically) male so long as one has a Y-chromosome."

It matters when we are talking about the definition of male and female, facts. I didn't say it matters when walking up to people.

@intotheminx: Technically they are whatever they define themselves as. Which unless you are having sex with the person should be enough.

Biologically on the other hand they are 100% male. As long as they have YX sex chromosomes. If they had XX chromosomes and had fashioned themselves a nice looking penis using a talented butcher/plastic surgeon they are still biologically female.

Even if they somehow managed to create a FUNCTIONING penis they'd presumably have to use someone else's semen or find some funky way of synthesising it inside their new parts from their own DNA. And visa versa for a man having functioning ovaries and being able to get pregnant.

But that is mental science fiction and nothing more. I say if she is hot enough suck away.

The simple thing is to simply consider them as transgender until they tell you what sex they identify with.

you cant go by xx xy...it don't work that way.....humans are very tricky creatures..we all different...in sex we are vastyly different.

infact there is no test done today that can tell sex for certin of a person....

sounds fuked up dude ....yea it is...in 1984 Olympics there was a case where a female failed the sex test and it became a big deal...when they first did the chromsone test they only used 1000 people a very small number....they did not even look at intersexed people at all and so two men came up with the idea there was xx xy only in nature.......there is so many possible outcomes we know today and that don't take into account you could be intersexed at birth and never know......a guy did a show on this and durning the show he was tested and told he was born female with a vagina that must been closed by surgery...it seems his partants never told him and all his life inside him was a vagaina.

I know this sounds weird so before you ask for links we know that hermaphrodite exist along with xxy xxxy and a vast amount of outcomes....in such a way we truly cant even use that test any more....they use birth records along with medical history and a exam so there no misunderstanding who running the race or weightlifting.

so even you dexa cant say for certin what sex you are.....

there are people born with both or no balls or micropenis or who knows.

normally my test tends to be the paul Hogan handshake....good day mate.

No, it's because 'transgender' is a much more pleasant sounding word than 'transsexual'. Yes, I am well aware of the correct definitions of the two terms and the vast majority of people in my same situation are as well. Under the strict definition, I would be a transsexual. However, myself and many others (if the /r/asktransgender subreddit is any indication) group all of those identities under the transgender umbrella. Is that correct from a strict definition standpoint? No, but it's the norm within the modern T (in LGBT) community.

well terms hmm that's even more complex then the who xxy thing.

I been to asia seen many trans there many names and different cultures....some like transsexual .....some say shemale some say ladyboy in japan there abnoramal new half...in india hijra,enuchs.....in the usa there genderfuk, trap transgender all sorts of new words....they are kinda abit different everywhere you go.

I like to travel so I get to see and meet new things people and cultures....

I seen some sing like songbirds and some look so pretty you never know...even knowing they exist I was even fooled many times because some just really can do that....most have some sort of tell if you look close....some are very nice and sweet and polite,,,some are crazy and funny and some are really nasty and plastic....

I think if you open your mind and talk to one you find they are quite interesting and cool and funny and you laugh a lot.....if you have a closed mind you be creeped out until on tricks you and then you be really screwed....what will you do then hugh.

I think living in America it diffeant because trans here hide or you see one once in a blue moon....go to asia there imposible to avoid....there at the mall,,in the store shoping even where you think they not be they are there because unlike here they live there life out in the open with out concern for prejustice.....they don't care if your mind closed.

I seen some crazy stuff and you know what....not one inch of skin came off my nose.

for guys here that wanna make fun and have a good laugh go meet one talk to one then judge....

@wildaries

Living stealth (trying not to show any outward signs that you're trans) is very popular here in the US.
Yes, different cultures will have different words for describing the same thing. The ladyboy example is one that is very common and accepted term in Thailand, but if tried saying the same thing to a trans woman in the US then they might scold you lol.

So yeah, terms are very complicated to navigate. There is a definite divide with the trap example that you listed. I personally don't mind being called a trap, but I know that some others find the term to be very offensive.

@-Toshy-: it cool to see different people in here....glad ur here toshy.

I think a lot of the issue in the usa has to do with the media....we see shows like it all sunny or rescue me or so on use a female and then try to make a big joke out the issue.....I admit it funny and all but there lacks any positive roles except on Netflix new series....funny how Hollywood has so many trans directors but no one hires one for a role.

the only show on tv is ru paul and that not trans there drag queens who sorta act very stearotypical....almost every known culture has trans going back thousands of years...even in the moslim world they where there weight in gold....from japan and china to india and the south sea islands....many where infact made or family wanted one.

but here in the west we have this old world idea of things that is really not modern or represents the world....I think a lot of that has to do with religion and fear of the unknown.

we see this in bathroom bills and fear mongering over some change in the military while yet we see a huge amount of porn here....a kinda don't ask don't tell that I look kinda thing......I think if one travels they see what the world is really like.

@wildaries: no not me I was suggesting OP maybe was lol

It scares the bejesus out of me scrolling around adult websites new section and there's some dude with huge titties and an erect dick that's probably why it's best to stay away from those sites. Or at the club even, them chicks with dicks will try to lure straight guys all the time. I can't blame them, if you can't handle the underworld, leave.
