**** man...out of no where i had some pop ups saying i had 54 viruses in my computer and this antivirus xp 2008 program popped up showing the viruses but i never seen that before. also in my wallpaper, it says "warning spyware detected on my computer, install anti virus or spyware remover." i used avg to scan my comp and ad aware but they didnt find anything. also on the bottom right of my screen, it says to remove this PUP thing. called "jokebluescreen" and it is located on windows\system32 folder. i cant delete it but it says it's a screensaver. i tried to use the antivirus xp 2008 that just popped out of no where but it said i gotta pay for it. how the hell do i fix this?

the antivirus xp 2008 is actually a virus! Don't use it!

type antivirus xp 2008 remover into google and it should help you out.

My dad got something similar and I had to fix it for him.

Oh you've got viruses alright. But that program wont get rid of them for you. It'll give you more, though.

GSWarriors-

i had that before, but it was spyaxe. but essentially the same problem. you're gonna have to manually remove it. its a smitfraud program and theres lots of ways to do it. Spy Sweeper helped out somewhat, because for some reason it blocked a lot of my internet access and spy sweeper brought it back.

i would also get Firefox for internet browsing, and then turn off Java.

if you want to really really get away from the threat of this again, you could always download Ubuntu for free and use that from now on. that way youll never get that again, because their arent any viruses like that (nor are there very many viruses to begin with for it) for ubuntu.

avg might not actually be USELESS. but it dosent really help much in my experience, i tried and tried with avg and nothing ever worked. I was always updated too.. I got to the point where I just bought an anti virus. Theyre only good for telling you you're infected though.

True. The XP Kernel is located within /System32 folder (a kernel is the exe. file that boots your computer when you start it up). Don't go into /System32. Theres so much sensitive stuff in there... And if your virus has infected your /System32 folder chances are the reason that the reason 1000+ virus are coming up now is because the virus has infected the /System32 folder and is multiplying throughout your core folders/exe. files.

Screw it, your computer is completely f*****. Get a new cheap one. If you have pricey hardware then try and take it out (carefully!) and install it in your new one.

KOTORkicker
Not necessarily. It might just be there to scare the user into leaving it there.. like it just scared you.
The virus can just stash its files anywhere it wants to. The location doesn't really matter, what does matter is the files it has infected and the former is not an indication as to what files the virus has infected.

Download and install SmithFraudFix, go to start, then your control panel, and in the control panel click the icon that says system...Finally, click the system restore tab when the new window pops up, and turn off system restore for now.

Turn off your computer for about 10 seconds, and turn it back on, continually press F8 and the boot menu will appear. Select Safe Mode with networking. Now once windows comes up, enter Smithfraud and wait for it to load, once it does hit any key to enter. A menu will pop up, select option 2, or if you want to be on the safe side make sure Smithfraud is up to date by pressing option 4 first.
