How violent is the movie, "American Sniper?"

I don't think it's terribly violent but there are some parts that could be disturbing. For example a terrorist called the butcher kills a kid by putting a drill into his head, and later on the U.S. troops storm one of the butcher's hideouts and there are dead bodies and severed heads in there.

I see the movie is living up to its notoriety.
The movie is simultaneously disappointing and unsettling. It's basically a movie that glorifies a psychopath, but that lacks the tongue-in-cheek humor and social commentary of American Psycho (2000).
glorifies a psychopath? since when are soldiers psychopaths? you rather it be them killing us?
fucking moron.

Look I'm totally against the war, but calling Kyle a psychopath seems ridiculous to me. I know about ALL of the controversial remarks that Kyle made in his book and yes I do consider them to be a bit questionable considering he just came back from war having killed 160 people. However, he also devoted much of his life to helping his own fellow veterans, which is what ultimately led to his death. Furthermore, Eastwood was a vocal critic of the wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan and I highly doubt he intended to make a pro war film. American Sniper was clearly intended to be a character study of Chris Kyle and the effect that war had on him and his family.
