I'm going to see it in IMAX 3D tomorrow but I'm a bit worried by from what a lot of people have been saying that it might be a bit too boring...I understand it'll have some awesome visual effects and action but a lot of critics and people I know have complained about the pacing and length, saying it felt like 3 days long as opposed to 3 hours, that the tea party scene in the trailer took forever, that they never thought it would end, etc....I really hope it doesn't turn out that way but I'd like a second opinion.

From those of you who have seen it already, what did you think of it? Was it boring or was it at least exciting enough to hold your attention for its runtime (as long as it was)? Honestly the main reason I've agreed to watch it in IMAX was for the Man of Steel and Pacific Rim trailers, plus the 9-minute Star Trek preview. Call me pathetic but I think it's worth it.

I was eagerly awaiting ech upcoming scene, out of it, and the 3 Lord of the Rings films, it seemed to pass the quickest.

It's nothing something I will find interesting, intriguing or entertaining, but sitting through a 3 hour film isn't a tough task by any means. If you're hyped enough to pay for tickets you will be fine.

i saw it in imax 3d it was amazing. The effects were just insane and there is lots of over the top action. Yes it is a lord of the rings movie so there is lots of talking. But this movie does not deserve the hate it gets.

Unrelated question but still about The Hobbit;

Does it have any spiders in it?

I just felt like asking without making a whole new thread about it. My buddy's wife wants to see it but she will not go if it has spider-like creatures in it :P

If you like massive amounts of obvious CGI, obnoxious gags and one-liners, contrived fight scenes that do nothing to advance the plot, and miraculous coincidences that save the heroes just in the nick of time again and again and again, you will not be bored by this movie.

You can kind of see the silhouettes of some spiders at one point. It's not even remotely frightening like Shelob was in ROTK though. The whole movie is basically like a cross between a children's cartoon and an amusement park ride.

No spiders, but she'll probably get creeped out during one part. There will definitely be spiders in the next one though.

You do realize that The Hobbit is really a kid's book, and that there's no reason for these events to be as dark as the LotR trilogy, right?

It's a kids book but the story is still serious enough to be appreciated by adults. There are moments of genuine fear and suspense in the book, for example the chapter with Bilbo and Gollum, or when the protagonists were trapped in the trees. Even these best moments in the book were poorly depicted in the film, especially the latter. Also the Great Goblin in the book was genuinely sinister, whereas in the movie he just provided some more comic relief.

the 1st ten minutes with old bilbo are a bit pointless, the next 20 minutes are slow but with 13 dwarves it needs it really otherwise you'd lose track of them

Favorite movie of 2012, I'd say the Hobbit trilogy is off to a better start than the Lord of the Rings trilogy was,and I love LOTR.

The scenes involving Frodo and Sam bonding were deep and depicted a profound love that I have never seen in any other movie. They were not exciting in a traditional sense, but I found them to be very moving.

Without attempting to read most of these comments I would say people were expecting something as epic as LOTR which was initially very very difficult to happen. Or a movie of the year and such.

I wouldn't take advice from the nerds of OT. LOTR is to OT, as Star Wars is to Star Wars nerds. No matter how bad it is they are going to watch it.

Yes although I guess "dark" wouldn't be the right word. I didn't like how they made it so action packed and intense.

Humor? The theater I saw it in was packed, and my friends and I, when discussing the film afterwards, specifically mentioned how throughout the entire film, the audience laughed once. And action =/= automatic entertainment.

Must been yours, in my theater people were laughing constantly at the jokes, and I know action isn't everything but when done right it can be entertaining which I thought The Hobbit did well in, not the best though.

Saw the movie last night. Surprisingly it has a ton of action, almost non-stop, so I barely found a minute of it to be boring.

I didn' t get bored even once. The first 30 minutes everyone keeps complaining about had just a lack of action scenes. Those are not what make a good movie. As a true Tolkien fan I grasped the chance of the beginning to reminisce the old times of LOTR and engross myself in the movie. The actors were really good (I liked Martin Freeman as Bilbo) and at times I got the usual LOTR goosebumps. An excellent movie overall-not as epic as LOTR but great in its own way.
