@sargentd: Spoken about 12 lines and already lied.

Interesting to hear claim that “no western journalist has bothered to interview” Putin since the invasion of Ukraine. We’ve lodged several requests with the Kremlin in the last 18 months. Always a ‘no’ for us.

@Vaasman: it's an alarming insight into the mind of conservatives who lap it up. We're really dealing with a level of anti-intellectualism which is dangerous to the future of the US

Can't wait for Carlson to go hard on Putin and confront him with the murdering of political opponents, the lack of free press, the fake elections, the oppression of Russian people.

@sargentd: I bit and watched this.

It's some sensationalist crap.

1. Putin had given countless of freely available press releases all of which are openly available to the public

2. Russia today is openly available on the internet and they represent directly the Kremlin line as state owned tv.

3. Carlson has offer 0 evidence that anyone has tried to stopped him conducting an interview.

4. Other media sources have admitted to ask and be denied interviews with Putin several times. (But unlike tucker, none of those media representatives have admitted on live tv to support the Russian invasion of Ukraine). Therefore Tucker may be allowed to interview, but as s supporter, not as a journalist.

This whole crap that the point of view of the Russian government is being censored is crap.

I myself very often watch Russian tv and read Russian media. It's completely available in the internet and automatic translation allows to even see non filtered versions of it.

@nirgal: I haven't watched it, never click his nonsense.

But, with a fairly minimally educated guess, I bet the video amounts to "Tucker is the key, dark forces at work, they are in a panic", with some vague, plainly false xfiles wankery.

Bet that's exactly what it is.

What Sarge doesn't actually realize is that people panic because MAGAS come across as actively stupid and detrimental to the world. Like a chimpanzee that's found car keys and decided to go for a drive on the main road.

That's, the reality.

@uninspiredcup: I don't see why not watch them, other than lack of time. Which is a valid reason, but I decided I was interested enough to use the ten minutes.

I am also much more conservative than the average user here. If not, at least more to the center, so I am by no means repealed by right wing ideas.

The video was basically this:

Starts with: media panics, Carlson, asked about the interview, pretends not to know who Putin is, and laughs in a very self content way(I guess this is the emotional hook)

Tucker Carlson is exercising free speech by interviewing Vladimir Putin. The point of view of Putin and the Russian state is being censored by USA media by not interviewing him directly. The American people need to know "both" sides of the story (like there is only two sides ?)

Then the video goes to USA media not covering live speeches from former president trump and the host tries to stablish that is also censorship and there is a parallelism to how both trump and Putin are being censored.

-----------

Now, there is a difference between censoring and not covering. Censoring means you have the capacity to prevent the other person from openly making a claim (or punish them after the fact), not covering is self explanatory.

But to be honest Putin is very often covered by the media, and even though we haven't seen any direct interviews to him:

1. He has to authorize the interviews.

2. His press releases are covered almost without exception

3. Russian media (that carries his point of view) is freely available and partially in English.

------

The video did not cover two things though:

1. Tucker Carlson being the only American journalist that appeares to be authorized to interview Putin, also happens to be the only (notorious ) American journalist that has openly expressed support for the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

2. Tucker has made claims that the government has stopped him from making an interview with Putin, yet he has not clarified the details of that supposed intervention and has heavily hinted that he will interview Putin.

@nirgal: Oh, have time. Just rather watch a video that's not bad or from a dubious source.

Thanks for the rundown. But yea, it's exactly as expected. Dark forces, Tucker chosen one. Bad faith argument, lies.

The usual slop.

No I just want to hear the position of Russia from thier leader himself. Even if it's all lies, that's fine that can be debunked. But it's valuable to hear both sides if you ever hope to know a resolution to the war.

It will be interesting to say the least. This is just as much a risk to Putin as it is to Tucker.

I'm an American not Ukranian or Russian. This war is bad for buisness and human lives lost. I'd like it to stop.

First off, lol at saying this is just as much a risk to Putin. I guarantee they're going to bring Tucker in to give manufactured questions for Putin's manufactured answers with 0 actual risks or risky questions allowed. That's the only kind of message Russia knows how to do anymore, obvious lies and propaganda, and Carlson is all to happy to lie. Also, unlike Carlson, Putin doesn't get defenestrated if he screws the interview up.

And second, are you expecting Tucker to convince Putin to recall the troops and stop trying to conquer and genocide a sovereign nation? Because otherwise this interview isn't going to stop anything. All it's really going to do is spew Russian propaganda directly to the politically illiterate MAGA twitter users.

@sargentd: you don't give a shit about freedom of speech. Putin is basically the only person in Russia than enjoys total freedom of speech.

And you already can listen to the point of view of Putin either through Russian media or his many public speeches.

This is a matter of amplification.

It's simply allowing an admitted supporter of the Russian invasion of Ukraine such as tucker to both amplify and validate the point of of view of his preferred leader while increasing his level of media exposure.

Sorry, what are you talking about?

Russia (the entire country) has been put under a fascist boot where you here nothing but Putins position. Which is all lies.

This extends outwardly to the internet as well, absolutely flooding the airwaves with Russian bots and literal "fake news" funded sources.

You literally, 100%, factually, in a loop, been regurgitating it over and over and over.

Also, Tucker isn't a journalist, actual journalists have been locked up and killed.

This is not some brave man withering the storm, he has been hand picked because he has, defaco, said he supports them and done nothing other than support them.

Like.. what fucking reality are you in?

@sargentd: In fact Russia has countless politicians that have been arrested for expressing political opinions other than the one of the Kremlin

Aleksei Navalny being just the most famous of them.

And Russian routinely arrests peaceful demonstrators.

If you were honest about caring about freedom of speech you wouldn't be excited to see the only person in Russia that can completely freely express his point of view on politics be interviewed.

@sargentd: look, I have Google putin speeches for you. You can access them fully from the source directly or translated or summarize by a number of different media with different political leanings.

@sargentd: no, and you know what I mean. You are going on about freedom of speech when it comes to being able to listen to the guy you can Google right now and listen to countless of interviews about Ukraine or any other topics.

That is directly represented by the state media of russia, by Russian embassies and consulates all over the world.

That is covered by international media in each of his public addresses.

And you want to make it seem like it's a matter of freedom of speech.

And while this very person regularly and violently suppresses freedom of speech in his own country.

You are being completely fake.

@sargentd: I would ask you if you are pretending to be dumb, or just are dumb, but I think it's obvious to everyone that there's no pretending.

The "we will lose this war" refers to the western democracies.

The "american boots on the ground" refers to having to defend Eastern European NATO allies when putin inevitably moves on to attack them after Ukraine.

Let's be honest, MAGA hates the EU. They were all parroting Kremlin sponsored anti EU propaganda around Brexit time. And don't give a **** about Europe in general. It's no coincidence that for the first time since WW2 we see European leaders talking about the possibility of war in the near future.

It's insane that a piece of human garbage like Trump could be in position of getting to the presidency... again. But it is what it is. No one could have predicted having a Kremlin sympathizer leading the US.

@sargentd: The only good thing about this propaganda stunt is that his 30 minute ramble about Russian history will be too long for the average MAGA to think. Which is probably why Tucker didn't want him to ramble on, he's use to simplistic soundbites for you lot and knew it was too much.

Heck, Putin even insulted him for his low grade expectations, he's maybe a mass murderer but even he has higher expectations.

Really absolutely nothing to get from this at all. It was literally the same shit he's been saying for 2 years, nothing new. At all. In the slightest.

Tucker never challenged him in anyway, shape or form. It was obvious basic bitch shit. And all the hype about "the truth coming out!" and all the panic amounted to a wet fart.

Which is good I guess.

Been in the politics section for 2 years, we've heard all this schtick' before. Shit, you've posted it.

This guy summarizes it best.

I heard from MAGA all week how Tucker’s interview was going to “break the internet” & be totally epic! And I was definitely concerned about how Tucker might use this to manipulate. But it was 2 solid hours of Putin airing Russian grievances we’ve all heard before. Totally boring.

I heard all week from deranged leftists that this interview makes Tucker a traitor. I heard pundits say he should be sanctioned and not allowed to come back to the country.

And at the end of the day it was a tame 2 hour interview of Putin giving his perspective of the war and Russias position in the world.

Nothing new, this has always been Putins position. But it's rare to see anywhere in western media.. allow this Russian perspective be told, for 2 hours straight nonetheless.

Nirgal was loosing his shit on me earlier.. saying that I can use Google translate on Putins past speeches if I want to know his viewpoint... before this interview was even posted..

it shouldn't be that difficult, and most Americans will not bother, but when so much of our money is going towards this conflict, we deserve to be able to hear it to get the full picture. Our Media actually has a responsibility to do it.

Because he is.

Only Putin wasn't playing ball game like his usual dribble mouths. In fact he repeatedly mocked him.

The worry was that right-wingers themselves come across as mentally unstable, and just flood the airwaves with more garbage (as you do), not that some profound truth will come out. Disinformation. Bollocks, as they say.

Doesn't help as well that your President Joe Biden doesn't appear to know who he is or what's going on. Your current government (imo at least) is doing an absolutely horrible job of dealing with Russian propaganda.

That last Biden press call, he might as well have handed Putin a steak dinner.

This is nonsense.

The media has covered all Russians "claims" multiple times over. MAGAS have been cheerleading them. Almost all right-wing alt-media supports them. He was hand picked because he's a useful idiot. Putin, very clearly thinks he's a literal idiot.

Watched the first fifty minutes of the interview, will watch the rest tomorrow. It's not what I expected, that's for sure.

There are so many historical claims, both small and large, that it's pretty impossible to keep track. I also don't have time/energy to factcheck everything, but I assume there will be a ton of comments from journalists/historians (I know there already is). So I intend to check some of that out after the interview.

I don't get the massive backlash to the interview even existing. It's interesting/relevant to hear. Of course you have to remain critical of the factual claims. I don't think this is some brillian piece of propaganda or anything. I mean a lot of the tiktok generation will quit before Putin even gets to the 13th century 😂.

The cognitive dissonance from those who spout about freedom but then are in love with an authoritarian dictator that takes freedom away is amazing. Way to go MAGA/trump supporters.
