@raugutcon: And why don't the women have the right to pay for their own food?

Do they open the door for you too on your date? How about pull out your chair? Maybe they can give you their coat if you are cold also?

Man up.

All that being said, feminism and chivalry can't occupy the same space.

If they reach the door first, yes they do. Can't say anybody ever pulled a chair for me. And I'm very rarely cold but hey if I'm cold and they're not I don't see a reason not to have their coat if it's not too feminine a coat.

If for you being a man is taking money out of a wallet then I'm quite happy with the person I am, thank you very much =) You tell me to man up but I'm not the one who feels insecure when a women does for me something I would also do for her.

Females can be chivalrous. They are dames rather than knights.

You are implying that chivalry is male-specific, but that is incorrect.

I am not sure what you are saying about feminism, but that is probably related to the gender roles you have incorrectly stated.

Please, this whole equality thing in every facet of life is complete bull. Sure women can do some things men can do but that don't mean everything and vice versa.

There is nothing in life that is 50/50 all the time and those that are looking for that situation are going to be extremely lonely.

If my wife hears a loud noise coming from outside/inside our home late at night she is waking me up to go see what it is. I would never nudge her and say go take care of it.

Sure they can be chivalrous never said they couldn't.

Just like I said, die hard feminism and chivalry can't occupy the same space in terms of males and females.

You are associating something that I did not say with me. I did not say anything about "this whole equality thing in every facet of life" or "die-hard feminism."

I am saying that females can be chivalrous in a way equivalent to that of males. Also, I do not know what you mean by "die-hard feminism." I am referring to feminism in which women are given equal opportunity, but that does not guarantee equal outcomes just the same as everyone else.

Could you be more specific about what you are referring to when you say "this whole equality thing" and "die-hard feminism?"

I always pick up the first check. If she's not at least offering to split by the third one then we're probably not compatible.

Feminism originally started not as equal treatment but actually not needing men. Hence why I say they can't coexist together in a male female relationship.

@kuu2: America began as a nation for land-owning Caucasians. I do not think the origins of something are all it can be for its entire existence. For example, the United States allows any ethnicity the privilege of land ownership, now.

There were black land owners all over the south. Don't tell anyone they also had slaves.

Don't know what that has to do with what we are talking though.

I ALWAYS go dutch and split the bill; I'm not against someone covering for me every once in a blue moon or the date showing me that they can provide or whatever, but I don't think it's cool to expect the guy to just foot the bill every time we go out....If the guy pays for EVERYTHINGALL the time its like he's being used and I don't prescribe to that. At the veryleast if he paid for dinner then I would pay for whatever we did next; guys deserve to be treated too!

If a man asks me out on a date I expect him to pay for it I am old school. If I were to ask a man out for a date I would pay. I treat by making dinner or paying for a home delivery. Have been fortunate to date men who make lots of money so they always paid. I would not have any issue sharing the bill if I dated someone with the same income.

@BranKetra: I didn't know Ra's has difficulty functioning when he's away from the Lazarus Pit. Aside from his depiction in the Batman movies and on Arrow I don't know much about him.

The Arrow version does not seem to have that weakness. The Nolan Batman films are a totally different universe with no magic, so he is without enhanced longevity in Batman Begins.

I feel like couples should split the bill. Men shouldn't be paying for everything.

Yeah, this too. One person pays for the movie, other person pays for dinner and vice-versa the next night. Worked well for me so far.

sorry I'm being a bit off the walls right now, but it's midnight and I'm bored, and i'm not tired enough to go to sleep, but it's too late to actually do anything that would be meaningful or take effort.

I know. I was, too (Also fixed comment).

Tea with a sedative might be of assistance for your sleep needs.

On that note, I should probably get some for my own.

A man pays 100%. No ifs, and, buts, or alternative scenarios.

I know we're in the era of being all politically correct, but it's a gentlemen thing to do. If she insists on paying for a coffee or something after, then sure. But take of the bill boys.

May I ask what your definition of being a gentleman is? To me being a gentleman is doing whatever is in my power to make the person I'm with feel happy, comfortable and respected. But from your post your definition seems to be different.

Unless mentioned before hand that the bill will be getting split, whoever initiates the date should be the one paying imo...

I completely agree with your definition.

My point is, a guy should pick up the tab for at least the first date or two.

I was asking because I've been in a couple of dates where the girls were uncomfortable with me paying for their dinner. I offered, they refused, so I decided that the gentleman thing to do was to respect their wishes and let them remain comfortable by doing what pleased them (in this case pay their share). Had I forced my wish upon them I would not have felt like much of a gentleman.

In this economy, it should be 50/50 on the first date. You shouldn't have to bribe a girl to like you.
