B-b-but freedom of speech!

I feel like there is more to the story than the article lets on.

So were you desperately looking for something negative about France and Charlie Hebdo, or do you actually frequent that site? Either way... no, just no. Come back later with an actual source.

It seems like the story hasn't been covered by English media yet, but it has been covered by French media:

http://france3-regions.francetvinfo.fr/pays-de-la-loire/2015/01/17/charlie-hebdo-nantes-un-adolescent-de-16-ans-poursuivi-pour-apologie-du-terrorisme-sur-facebook-634720.html

http://www.ouest-france.fr/apologie-du-terrorisme-un-lyceen-nantais-poursuivi-pour-un-dessin-3119401

An English source with more details from the two sources above:

http://electronicintifada.net/blogs/ali-abunimah/france-begins-jailing-people-ironic-comments

However, he isn't the only one. 54 other people have been arrested in France's recent crackdown on free speech:

French authorities accused of double standards over hate speech crackdown

And they're not all Muslims either. Some of them are non-Muslims, like this comedian:

#FreeSpeechStories: France accused of 'double standards'

France 3 is the second largest French public television channel.

Ouest-France is the largest French newspaper.

These are reputable French sources.

i thought hebdo firing the guy for antisemitism in 2009 was more hypocritical than that but whatever.

the lesson is that everyone everywhere are filthy little hypocrites.

hell, even ghandi forbid his dying wife from taking medicine to save her life because that shit is supposed to be god's will but as soon as he got sick he could not stuff drugs down his kwashiorkor'd belly fast enough.

I have several spanish sources if you want.

And I have nothing against France as a country. Hebdo, well, they're just assholes, I can udnerstand protesting through freedom of speech, but I dont respect the freedom of speech that is only used as an excuse to be an asshole. I dont justify the killings, no sympathy for the shooters and its a real shame people died, but these guys at hebdo were pretty much poking a bear with a stick for a while for no purpose other than to poke it. They werent protesting about anything, they just wanted to say "islam is shit, we will sell magazines out of that".

EDIT: turns out a guy here posted some very credible french sources. happy now? The double standard is disgusting.

gotta love how some users are pushing this aside because of the source (now i see someone flooded the topic with half a dozen links and then the doubters went silent)

amazing how insecure some users are.

The hell does that have to do with insecurity? Original site was shit. Period. And even those other links posted aren't reputable sources - and neither do they fully support the TC's. Try harder.

If you're going to claim the largest French newspaper and the second largest French public TV channel are not "reputable" sources, then such blatant denialism does indeed make you seem very insecure.

However, it is interesting that, despite this story being mentioned in several mainstream French media sources, the mainstream English media still refuses to cover this story. It seems like the mainstream English media is clearly trying hard to censor information that might make the French government look bad.

For many, It's easier to deny the information than to face facts...though I could never do that.
