Also its to clear your mind of negative thoughts so you can think clearer. Not to completely wipe away any ideas or knowledge you possibly posses. MgamerBD

I think (could be wrong) he was making the comparison between meditation and contemplation. If more people took the time to ruminate on knowledge and events instead of just skipping across the surface of life, we'd all be far happier.

[QUOTE="MgamerBD"]The universe is on your side bro. Nothing wrong with meditating. We clear our mind so we can think more. Get rid of the little so we can see the big.Zeviander
Bullsh!t the universe is on my side. If it were, I'd be in a much better position in life than I am currently. I am the only one who can affect change in my life, the universe is a non-conscious entity that if it were able to comprehend thought, wouldn't even know of our existence. And why would I want to clear my mind? I want to stuff it full of knowledge and experiences before I die.

Where is the separation between yourself and the rest of the Universe exactly? We are a way for the cosmos to know itself. Carl Sagan, Cosmos

[QUOTE="MgamerBD"] You live in America, have food and clothes on your back and once in awhile get lucky. Trust me...you're born in great odds. Also its to clear your mind of negative thoughts so you can think clearer. Not to completely wipe away any ideas or knowledge you possibly posses. I believe you should try it. You already sounds stressed, I know it will give you a new perspective of peace.

I am Canadian, actually, so I'm even better off. But that isn't my point. My point is, that I want more stuff in my life and I'm the only one who can work my ass off to get it. Begging the universe, or God, to give me a break and make it happen isn't going to work. I'm the only one "on my side". I'm very well acquainted with meditation and what it entails. Actually, I'm probably far more acquainted with meditation than most people, as I was taught about it on both a personal and professional level (university studies). I never once found any benefit from it. I have certainly found myself in situations where I am calm and am not thinking about much, and just enjoying the moment as it passes, but I don't actively seek that feeling (anymore) because, well, that's the point of "living in the moment". You don't force it to happen. Peace is boring. My brain is always on, even when I sleep (I'm always dreaming) and I enjoy losing myself in the vast sea of thoughts my brain creates. Emptiness of mind is something I actually fear, because that would, to me, imply death.

Poor little you. With your poor little problems. You hastily dismiss my comment, so I'm going to assume you don't want to seriously discuss anything.

[QUOTE="Wolfetan"]

Would this count? I try to spend atleast 1-3 days a week(sometimes less, sometimes more) laying down and just listening to music. Closing my eyes, and just relaxing. Usually for 30-90 minutes. Meditation?

MgamerBD
Yes. That is a form of meditation.

Cool. Since it is, I believe everybody should do a form of meditation, it always gets me very, very relaxed, and very tired for that matter(as I do it before I go to bed)

That kind of thinking is only ever good for the "whoa, dude" kind of mindset. It has no practical implications... until maybe we develop technology to digitize consciousness.
