So everyone has heard that supposedly black people talk the most in movie theaters and are generally a lot noisier.

Do you believe this is true or just a groundless stereotype?

EDIT- Please only Americans answer because if you aren't American it is most likely you won't have even heard of this stereotype or sat in a movie theater with a large number of black people.

Ive heard the sterotype, especially when it comes to horror films, and in my own theater experiences it has been the case but that doesnt make it true, although children are always the most noisy and annoying moviegoers.

It seems to be the white teenagers around here. I went to see Zombieland Friday and when the screen came up to turn off your cell phones, they started calling each other!

I live in America. California, to be exact. I just never heard of it before, and I can't say I've ever had a problem with Black people being disruptive in the theater either... I go to the movies all the time. More White people (I'm White myself) seem to act stupid while at the movies more than anything.

Some black people fulfill that stereotype--some don't. It's as simple as that. I've seen firsthand how black people can be when they gather together in large numbers inside a movie theater on a Friday and Saturday night, and it's absolutely crazy at times depending on where the theater is located(especially when you're outside the theater). They can be obnoxiously loud.

That's why many people travel to the suburbs to see a movie most of the time--because lots of people don't like to deal with that ignorance. It's usually only teenagers though--you'd rarely see that from black adults. But ultimately, race isn't a factor here. I've seen the same exact thing from a large group of white and hispanic people hanging out--they can be just as loud and crazy as well.

In my experience, the loud ones at theaters are spoiled white kids aged 11-16 and "gangstas" of all ages. During horror movies, they all yell really loudly before the obvious shock scenes. "OH NO DONT OPEN THAT DOOR OH DAYUM SON SHE GONNA OPEN THAT DOOR!" And that's why I use Netflix.

In general, the people who are less educated tend to be less polite, and those are the kinds of people who show up yelling or talking during a movie. I've encountered equal amounts of black and white people who chat or yell during a movie.

The loudest people in general are the white people that think they're acting black, but really they're morons that struggle to spell IQ, let alone retain any in there long, meaningless lives= Chavs. It doesn't matter what the ethnicity, we should have a national servie for chavs only, and they should be sent to Iraq with inadequate equipment.

I've experienced it. Not so stupid, I guess. Also, most people tend to forget stereotypes exist for a reason. I've never heard of a single stereotype that someone just made up based on nothing. They're all based on reality, though sometimes in varying degrees.

I agree, people too often say "Oh its just a stereotype, its obviously not true". Stereotypes DO exist for a reason and often have a lot of truth behind them.

We don't have that many black people where I live (middle of Iowa) so I can't comment on the truth behind the stereotype. But the biggest problem group I've seen in theatres has always been a group of >4 10-16 year olds.

I live in an area with enough black people to have encountered this and not trying to be racist but yes. When I went to Disturbia for example there were two fat black guys stoned out of their minds shouting the whole time. That's what I get for going at 11 PM. Oh and don't get me started about the Omen remake. There were like 20 black kids in the front yelling "oh hell no don't go in there" and such the whole time. Do white people talk during movies? Yes. As much as black people? In my experience no. Also white people tend to whisper when they talk. Oh and babies. Who the hell brings a baby to Men in Black 2. Stupid people that's who.

In some cases for me the stereotype has been true(hispanics included), in most cases it has has been teenage white kids saying stupid things or just caring on with childish conversations. This really only happens with horror movies, sometimes with comedies. One of the main reasons why I dont go to the movies anymore.

Well, not just at movies. They're really loud at school but I don't care. As long as they don't bother me they could be as loud as they want. :) I'm sure that they're all not like that either.

You don't think there are, throughout the world, large numbers of black people who are loud at the theatre? It's not asking if only black people are loud, or if you think every single black person is loud, which most people in this thread aren't getting. It's asking if the stereotype is at all true, or if it's based on nothing, and everyone who said it's based on nothing is, for a fact, wrong, because as we've already seen, it's very much grounded in reality. Case closed.

well, once you're in the theater everybody becomes black since it's so dark in there.
