No. I don' t like it at all. It' s very popular and all but it' s no use to me as all of my friends (well they' re not that many...) have skype accounts so I keep in touch with them through it. I prefer this board instead ;)

Yup I do...I usually post on it a few times a day with some movie, music, or art musing and then check to see how a handful of my friends are doing.

I have one but I never post "status" updates. I just use to to see what people are randomly saying or to occasionally comment on something. That's it.

i dont facebook ruined my family. if social networking hadn't come up from trendy teens as a background my sister wouldnt have become a teenage mom, my dad wouldnt have tried to kill my mom and i might still have access to a 10,000 dollar student loan

its a long story but basically my sister got hooked to social netowrking like an addict. fell for some dude over facebook in sasskatchewan. ran away from home to lvie with tis dude. got knocked up. came back. lived with us. then moved out on her own and cut all communications. had her kid is raising it on child support & welfare.

as a result of her running away my dad blamed my mom my mom blamed social networkings trendyness he got mad tried to smother her with a pillow. got arrested. is in prison for assault. divorced my mother., cut ties to me. and froze the 10,000 dollar student loan signed out in his name for me

all because social networking in general is majority populated by teenagers and has its roots in teenage pop-culture trends.

i personnaly have a grudge with FB and all other social networking services. and i condemn them and all who enjoy and sue them excessively to an early and well deserved grave.

had it, until bout a year ago.

when i first got it, i'd add just about anyone, but then i got tired of seeing inane updates from people i didn't really like, so i just narrowed my friends list down to just my real friends. then i realized, wtf is the point if i can just talk to these people irl, so deleted my fb all together.

i barely used it anyway, so it was an easy choice

lol, don't blame facebook for your sister being a complete and utter moron. SHE chose to run away. SHE chose to keep the child. SHE chose to cut ties.

and facebook chose to be a social netowkring system for college and high school studnets @ launch. her decisions were made based on the assumptions generated by the environment that is/was facebook and how it made her view others in real life.

your cyberspace self should never be your real self. often this just causes miserable real life results and makes you suceptible to all kinds of social and communal manipulation.

which is why we have the saying "dont believe the hype". you put faith in something as artificial mind body & soul as social networking. and you are doomed to this fate. and not a single social networking site tries at all the avoid this very dangerous problem. so yes i can blame them quite easily. she did make choices but she made choices convinced that the only opinions about it (that mattered) were up on her wall or in the comments section below her photograph library.

she chose to cut ties and that i acknowledge completely as her fault. but if social networking didnt encourage absolute self honesty but absolute BS about everything else. maybe none of this would have happened and she would nevr have been put in a position to make such a decision in the 1st place.

you seem to think that because a system exists that only its users are to blame for everything those users do outside of the system as a result of things said and done in the context of that system. and that my friend just isnt true. by your understanding of things. we should blame every german in the nazi party during 1939 - 1940 for the deaths of soldiers and civilians of ww2 rather than them along with the dogma of the group itself, the political framework it existed in. and those tasked with making them believe it was an absolute truth.

your logic makes no sense im sorry. you cant choose in cases like this; you need to be wholesale in the blame.

Blame your sister for being a complete moron, or your parents that failed in raising her with proper values, because you can't blame a site that encourages to get in contact with old classmates. How you got the whole nazi germany into this is beyond me. lulz.

it encourages communication and simulated community. thats what it does. hence the term "social networking" and facebook is first and foremost a buisness and like all buisnesses they need you to keep coming back or they shut down. so they market themselves and in basically all social networking websites cases. market themselves as being pure and that everything said about evrything on their sites are the only truth that should matter to you. knowing their full of lies, decipt and unregisterable sarcasm or passion (or a lack thereof).

if they didnt do as such they wouldnt have users anymore as there wouldnt be a point to using them over already universally used mechanisms of the time like email and instant messaging.

and its the fact that they market themselves as such that drove my sister to believe every word said as an absolute truth. drove her to ignore alternative points of view to the madness she was involving herself in. and what drove her to leave the frigging province to live with someone she only knew as a screen name. some jpegs and some lines of text.

and like the nazi's in my extreme but case example. she did things based on things said within the context of a program outside of that program. and is somehow the only one that should be held responsible.

who is more to blame the system and its marketing or the person who fell for it. i will leave you to be the judge. but i rest it more on facebook than my own flesh and blood, just like you would in my shoes. cause thats what real family and community does. i trusts you before it puts faith in a 3rd party

Had a MySpace account for 4 years and has over 500 friends on that thing. Like Ionus was saying, it got to my head and I went a little nutty over it. To get over my craziness I had to start seeing a psychiatrist and I deleted my account in 2008. Never got a Facebook. After MySpace I learned how ridiculous social networking can be.
