Dexter is one of the best shows on TV

Honestly I have to say that after finishing Season 4 it's sky-rocketed to the very top of my list...it's so freakin' powerful, especially the finale where...

[spoiler] Rita is dead and the baby is 'born in blood'. [/spoiler]

It's one of the most shocking things I've seen on TV. The only thing better than Dexter is Game of Thrones. The Walking Dead isn't on my list anymore - no room for it, as with Rome, Mad Men, etc.

Dexter is really underrated; its sad that more people don't want it.

I feel the same way. I' m nearing the end of season 5 and I can safely say it' s one of my favorite shows. It' s well-written and Michael C.Hall is excellent as Dexter. The whole idea of the Dark Passenger really appeals to me.

It's on a premium cable station, so it's doing pretty well for itself all things considered.  I'm not exactly sure what numbers you want, but expecting Sopranos type numbers is just not realistic.  Even Game of Thrones and True Blood which are both enormously popular can't hit what those numbers.

The first 2 Seasons of Dexter were outstanding, very tight, unfortunately though seasons 3 and 4 were decent, it went downhill and become too predictable and formulaic after nthat.

2 > 1 > 4 > 3 > the other 3

Understand that, by the end of Season 4 the show was indeed on many peoples best list, but the last 3 seasons may very well disappoint you, just letting you know.

Meh, I prefer historical dramas and fantasy more. Also Breaking Bad is definitely better. Game of Thrones, Vikings, Spartacus I also enjoyed more.

Bad news OP, season 4 is the last great season. 5 is terrible, 6 is a little better, but still nowhere near 1/2/4. 7 is pretty good though.

Season 1,2 and 4 are amazing. Season 3 and 7 were pretty good. 5 and 6............

I felt season 4 was the best season of Dexter. The following seasons have had their moments but none have reached that intensity that Season 4 had. This past season of Dexter was pretty average aside from the very end.

He's a serial killer...and actually, they do all of those things at one point or another. Dexter himself has many little inner monoluge moments where he refers to himself and people like him to be monsters.

meh, it's kinda trailed off for me. last season's ending was just utterly stupid. i still enjoy watching it tho

It was a good show up through season 4. Not great, but good. It has been really, REALLY sh!tty ever since . . . essentially unwatchable.

I used to like it. But there's really only one or two good seasons while the rest are full of god awful writing and acting. Dexter himself has gone so far out of character he's not even interesting to watch and Michael C. Hall plays him like he's about to fall asleep.

It gets really bad. The problem is that the writers are too scared to do anything with the character so they keep him the same from when the show starts to when it ends. Honestly season 7 was one of the worst things I have ever experienced in a television show. Everything from the contrived writing to the fact that a Ukrainian Mob Boss had a British accent.

Enjoy the show while you can, I liked season 5 and 6 has an interesting villian.
