Religious.
Well?
People are my religion.
But that's a fancy way of saying I am atheist, but I'm pretty passive about it. I think most religions are more or less a cultural virus, but I don't go around telling everyone they're wrong, either.
Religion, at the local level at least, generally does more good than bad.
...And no, I do NOT go to Church.
Church to me has always seemed like a very outdated thing, very weird. If I were religious, it'd be a lot more personal than that.
Is it the sense of community? Or do people just go because their parents went, and their parents before them, and so on...
Atheist, but I study religion academically. Mostly because I am fascinated by ancient history, and it's hard to separate old historical texts from old religious texts.
Theist vs atheist. This axis is about belief in the existence of God.
Gnostic vs agnostic. This axis is about whether you think it can be proven.
I am an agnostic atheist. I don't believe in the existence of God and I don't care to argue with anyone on the issue.
Like me most atheists are agnostic too. The atheists that are also gnostic are screaming at other people at parties about how God doesn't exist and religious types are morons. They have to be right.
Many theists are also agnostic as they don't care to argue their view and simply believe...cause why not.
Gnostic theists also have to be right. The most extreme version will strap on a suicide vest just to show you how right they are. Slightly less extreme is sending your child to a 'camp' to get the 'gay' out of them.
Neil deGrasse Tyson said something about this topic that really stuck with me.
"The only "ist" I am is a scientist. I don't associate with movements, I'm not an "ism", I think for myself. The moment when someone attaches you to a philosophy or a movement, then they assign all the baggage and the rest of the philosophy that goes with it, to you. When you want to have a conversation they will assert that they already know everything important that there is to know about you because of that association. And that's not the way to have a conversation. I'd rather we explore each other's ideas in real time, rather than assign a label to it and assert you know what's going to happen in advance."
And then he went on to say that the word that came closest to his stance on religion, spirituality or god, is agnostic.
I have no particular belief. I don't consider the existence or non-existence of gods to be particularly relevant.
Believe in a creator.
Possibly something like that big head from Star Trek 5 where it's not god but just a super-being well beyond any shit we can comprehend.

I think that's a bit of a weird statement. It seems that many people think of atheism as some sort of religion, while that isn't the case. It's just the rejection of a claim.
I am an atheist by definition for the simple fact that I haven't been convinced that a god exists.
I am of course open for the possibility of the existence for a god if provided with evidence of said god.
That's why I am an agnostic atheist.
Agnostic because I dont really fucking know but would definitely pick science based atheism if I had to choose another
I don't think I've ever been truly atheist. I definitely went through phases though. I was once very religious in an amalgam Judaism, but I abandoned that in the late 90s. I think I considered myself wavering between atheism and agnosticism back then, but with hindsight I can realize I was actually just more of a deist at the time. In any case, I went back to religion in 2011, back when I used to come here more frequently.
I also stopped gaming so much around that time for a long time, but that had more to do with increased work responsibilities rather than religion. Lately I've picked up my gaming again, which is why I popped back into this place. Boy, Gamespot sure has changed since that time!

Welcome back, didn't expect to see an old timer like you pop up. This place is pretty dead these days. Would be nice to get a few more old users back.

I recognize your names, seems like forever ago these threads blew up with arguments. Now this place appears to be a ghost town.

Yeah, you can blame me for that. I'm happy to be blamed.
I mean, sure, it's the mods and admins who made the Politics Forum and sapped the activity right out of Off Topic, but I was among the most vocal of whiners who called for its creation.
To this day, I still have less than zero regrets, so I'm happy to be the blame sink and take the heat off other people involved. So please go ahead and blame me.
