African American males' preference for light skin women?

How do you feel about it? I ask because I just stumbled upon a video by Jamie Foxx that features Chris Brown. In the opening dialogue sequence, Jamie tells Chris about an attractive woman who showed interest in him and pursued him. He describes her as 'light skin, beautiful,' and then expresses his own surprise that she expressed interest in him, as if he felt that he wasn't good enough for her because she's has light skin and he has dark skin. I was repulsed when he said this.

I have worked with women that were not light and they said the same thing. Lighter skinned women are more popular. As I personally am not part of that demographic I will take their comments as honest. Their experience.

Idealized attributes tends to be things that are not too common amongst a particular group. Dark skinned people will often consider those with a lighter tone more attractive and vice versa. Look at all the ads selling tanning cream to white women. When it comes to beauty, the population at large is either too much or too little of one thing or another.

Or curly haired women wanting straight hair, and straight haired women wanting curly hair.

Yeah I feel like the saying "opposites attract" is true. I also tend to find that most men and women don't like to date their own race.

True, but there are a few gender-race parings that are pretty common, such as white males/Asian females and, yes, black males/white females. Hell, I'm in Minnesota, a state that's 80% white and 5% black and the latter combination is getting more common, which isn't surprising considering there are only about 150,000 black males compared to over 2,000,000 white females here. There are only so many black women here and black men tend to date outside their race way more often than black women in general.

Mixed-race people are a sizable percentage of the populations of Hawaii, Alaska, California, Washington, Oregon, and Oklahoma (mostly mixed white/Indian in Oklahoma/Alaska). Interracial relationships and marriages are becoming more common as the country diversifies and mixed race people will likely make up a very visible percentage of the population by mid-century.

For me it has nothing to do with skin colour. Europeans have more refined facial features as far as I can tell. The two women in the picture OP posted obviously have European ancestry because they have facial features typical of Europeans.

I think doing a collaboration with Chris Brown should be considered a crime. Don't really care about women's skin colour, I prefer them being on the slim side of things though.

Most people tend to be attracted to what is familiar to them. The majority of any race seems to hook up with the same race. That does not mean some people don't hook up with other races. But it's not really the rule.

Meh if the woman is pretty in the eyes of the person, skin is the last thing on my mind.

That sums it up nicely, although I would add that within that framework, there are beauty standards that are generally idealized in a certain historical epoch. Currently, light-skinned women are generally preferred worldwide, just like thin women are and so on. At some point in history, fuller women were all the rage, and I bet dark-skinned women had their moments in history.

Well it is true that light skinned guys and girls are more popular than darker skin people. I'm not saying this because I'm light skin, I'm saying this based on my life and my sister.

Even though I was the socially awkward kid growing up, I never had to try talking to a girl, because there was always at least one coming to me. My sister was always the one that standout in her crew cause she was the only light skin one.

I think in general attraction is more about features than skin color. I had a discussion with some of my black friends that like me are more into other race than ours and we noticed that we don't have any issues with Indian girls, even if they a very dark.

I dated a Indian Girl before but her skin was dark but I didn't care about her skin to say the least, she was beautiful and nicer in her character. I wouldn't say skin color is not what made me like her, it's her personality.

Simple fact of life .... everyone wants to be be unique/different.

White People - Want to me more tanned, and are attracted to tanned people.

Black People / Asian ect - Often want those of their own to be fairer rather than darker.

It's just one of those things.

E.G I'm rather Pale... typical white man. I often see beautiful tanned girls and here is me thinking "Let me guess, she's into tanned body builders?" ... more often than not, spot on the money.

Although you might find it offensive, I am generally more attracted to White woman pale or tanned, and light skinned black/asian woman .... the colour just appeals to me so much more, that is not racist, its not offensive, its just a fact of taste.
