It was proved BS on several occasions, two of them being a Mayan Elder saying it isn't true and a recent discovery of an extension of their calender.

You remember Y2K?

The truth is, the Mayan's already had their own apocalypse, the "prediction" was just their calendar ending, and it wouldn't even correspond to our own.

I mean hey, if it does then the world ends and I probably die (unless the theory of Quantum Immortality is correct), but it won't because the only people who want an apocalypse are the ones who want to feel important, who have nothing to go on and can't bear the sad possibility that in their lifetime the world will just move on without them.

#27 Posted by roulettethedog (10946 posts) -

If you think 12/21/12 is really going to be the end of mankind, you have passed the IDIOT test.

#28 Posted by Nibroc420 (13567 posts) -
Umm, the Mayans never said the world would end dec 21 2012. Dec 21, 2012 is simply the date at which their extremely long calender comes to an "end", and begins again. Much like how in modern culture, Dec 31st every year, we celebrate as our calender ends, and begins again for a new year.

While I'm also a huge skeptic, I enjoy watching documentaries about these kinds of documentaries on TV.

Which is no different in saying you're going to change in the new year. make new years resolutions and whatnot. Besides, if their calendar is like 2000 years long, it's pretty ****ing obvious there's going to be some "change"
